    Simple.

    Cut out a 2" rectangle from your tubing vertically through the upper and lower tube. Add a piece if 2" square 1/4" to fill the cuts. Burn it in. Mount the hung to the rectangle.

    Or use 3" flat stock or whatever.

    the hinge will be under the tailgate then though. the horizontal tubes end before the edge of the tailgate.

    actually. if i cut out the vertical tube just under the tail light and put the hinge there and brace the upper quarter panel tube with the hinge and a little reinforcement....... i kinda like this idea

    Isn't the last vertical like right on the edge if the tail gate??

    I was saying adding another vertical piece for the hinge right by the tail light. Ad a gusset or two and it'll be more then enough.
