Is the mileage that displays on the speedometer stored on the speedometer itself or is it stored elsewhere on a computer and just displayed on the speedometer?

I've got the original speedometer in my 06 that I changed all the LED's to blue in, but I want to pull it out to sell and put a factory colored one back in it and I'm worried about the mileage difference.

Few years ago, on my 2005, the dealer has changed the speedometer cause of a faulty temp gage and the odometer was at 0 km. A note has been inserted id the file of the truck at Toyota canada.

So it should be stored in the instruments panel.

I have a need to read the Odometer reading. I thought it would be easily accessible on the OBD-II bus. It is not. for more info.

I do know the dealers can send off a chip or the whole speedo and get the odometer changed or matched to a new one. The vehicle has to legally stay parked.

its stored on both the ecu and dash...
swap dashes and it will read the mileage from the truck that new dash was previously on...
i have 117k on my truck...i swap a dash with 46,000k and ill be the only one to know what the actual mileage is but since my trucks been to toyota alot they have the close to actual mileage plus if you connect the device it will tell you the actual mileage form the ecu :p

EDIT: why are you going back to stock?

Selling the truck. Have the extra stock speedometer to put in it and figure I could make a little extra money selling the modded one :)

Isn't it illegal to falsify mileage and sell vehicle. Just saying.

It is for the purpose of making it look like the truck has less miles on it yes. That's not at all why I'm doing it... If the mileage is WAY off then I'm not going to swap
