Its not very hard to do it yourself, its worth buying the tools necessary and reading up on here so you can tackle it yourself. I did it myself, and ask john, i don't even know which way to turn a bolt to loosen it

 

I was thinking the same thing. Instead of spending money on labor I could use it to buy some tools and gain the knowledge I wouldn't get by paying somebody to do it. I just worry about messing up the job. How long did the install take you and did you go at it solo or have some help???

 

My install took 6 hours with one person helping me.

 

Cut the crack drill holes at each end and TIG it and only TIG.

 

I broke a rear u bolt some how today. And my shackle is all fucked. Getting new shackles that are greasable.

 

I did it myself with very little suspension knowlegde prior to tacomaworld. Probably took me 8-10 hours. I did it after work, 3 days, couple hours a night. I had a work van so i could leave my truck on jackstands. I did a full leaf spring swap and assembled shocks/struts with a spring compressor.

 

I'm sensing that you have a knack for breaking shit.

 

BTW to the gentleman with the limited slip issue.. idk why I didn't think of it but have you changed the fluid to stock fresh stuff? It makes a world of a difference surprisingly with limited slips.

 

Finished setting up brackets on a 14bolt for a jeep jk. Going to be the first disk brake jk with functioning abs ever!

 

Get some guys to help.. get it done in 2 hours

This. I have swapped my front coilovers 3 times now, it only takes me around an hour.

 

We used to do the same thing when I worked down the T. The escalator steps would get crackes and we would drill holes at the end to stop the progression but it doesn't always work. If the metal has been stressed and weakened it will crack again. I suggested a type of fish plate welded in. He could also add more gussets to help strengthen the area.

You have to be careful with adding gussets. Motorcycle frames are built to be rigid in some areas and flex in others. If you add gussets, stiffening one part, that could force another part of the frame to take a stress that it wasn't normally designed to.

Alex, you might want to check Ebay and see if you can find a replacement frame. It's old enough that you might find one cheap.

 

What I meant by the fish plate and gusset is some extra material added to the cracked area. Maybe cut the top open drop in a piece and reweld the top or weld some angle to the exterior to stiffen the weakened spot

Frames are pretty cheap on eBay. $250-550+
