Black Plastic?

I thought about listing this under detailing but I'm hoping someone has a more permanent solution...

Several years ago all car companies started putting this stuff on their vehicles and within month's the stuff starts to fade. I am tired of detailing this stuff every two weeks to make it look fresh. Any long term solutions for making this stuff look day one fresh? I like the looks but the product doesn't last. Did detailing companies help design this stuff?

Here's the hard part; I'm looking for a fix that is long term and looks natural. Maybe a paint product that works w/plastic that someone has tested?

Haha I had the same issue with my truck. I used good ol tire shine and rubbed it in very thoroughly and it's been good for about 2 years now.

 

This stuff is absolutely the best trim protectant I've ever used, and I'm a hobbies detailer. I've used a LOT of products.

Most products makes the plastic/rubber look shiny, and doesn't really protect at all. The Wolfgang sealant looks natural on the trim, but most of all it lasts and has UV protection. That's the big thing, UV protection.

I haven't had my truck long enough to actually show you how well it works, but you'll just have to trust me. I will be applying a layer to my trim pieces and rubber trim at least every 2 weeks. Probably overkill but I want that stuff to remain showroom condition.

Yeah I don't use it for that so I couldn't tell you. It is a polymer coating so it does add *some* shine to it, but not a lot.

Another option is

$12 duragloss 271 rubber and flat black dressing - 8 oz.

duragloss 271. Both products are very good. The dg271 is just a bit shinier than the Wolfgang.

 

I don't know how long it will last but I've been using turtle wax ice and it makes it look great. It does give it a little shine.

www.foreverblack.net Be very careful when using it as it will turn everything black ! comes in a shoe polish kind of bottle/ applicator. lasts very long & goes on easy.

I painted all of my bed trim with roll-on bed liner, even the bumper trim. The paint had a slight semi-gloss sheen to it. It always looks clean, or like if I had just washed it. When I was younger, I had used a couple of plastic protectant sprays and they never gave me long lasting results.

 

Let it fade so people know you're driving a truck and not a vagina.

A couple dents would be nice too.

Ever heard of pride of ownership? Just because YOU feel the need to show off how much YOU don't care doesn't mean we are less of a man because WE don't. Don't project your insecurities onto people who take pride in what they own, and care for it.

OP, I used Turtle Wax trim restorer on one of my cars and it works pretty well so far./ On my Tacoma, I recently bedlined and painted just about all of the trim (except the stuff around the windows). It's a 98 and everything on it was pretty faded.

 

I've always just used Armor All whenever the plastic starts to look crappy. I spray it on a rag, then lay it on heavy and rub it in good to make sure the texture of the plastic is well treated. It doesn't last forever, but works great on cleaning up heavily oxidized crud.

 

I had some of my plastic fading on me.

Mothers back to black does a great job. I use that inside and out. Also tried some meguiars plastic stuff that works fabulously on plastic(smells like cherry too). And stays on after multiple car washes.

I always use back to black. I get it at vato-zone.. works great and doesn't take very long to apply.
