What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

LBJ on 2001+ right? I have a 2000 so I should be safe?

I saw a rack of generic fob cases at NAPA (I think). I believe they were only like $10. I didn't need one, so I didn't pay too close attention, but there were more than a few.

I think i am confused as to what is happening with the LBJ failures. Do they sheer the bolts or do the bolts just come loose? I am still at stock ride height and have monitored mine and they still seem tight as hell. Is it more at risk if lifted?

 

I can't stand always having the LBJ failure in the back of my mind while driving. I gotta get some locktite on the bolts ASAP!

Since I can access the 4 bolts without taking everything apart, think I can remove one at a time and apply Locktite, then torque back down to ??? Lbs?

Also, 2 of the 4 bolts are visible through the top. Could I get longer bolts then use nuts on top to secure them?

 

nope. Can happen to any 1st gen. Im a 96 and lost mine.

Usually a few bolts fall out and your left with just 1 or 2 and those can't handle the torque and pressure and they shear off.

yea you can pull one at a time to do it. 45lbs i think is the right torque.

No you can not go through the top..i mean..i guess you could..but its not a flat surface and i think it would interfere with the steering. And even if it worked thats only fail safing two bolts and if the other two come out, your still screwed.

Locktight is enough.

 

Hahah thats what i did exactly yesterday, then I saw your post so I guess great minds think alike. The whole $65 to ship on those fiberglass ones thats just dumb. realistically it would be like $8 to ship anywhere in the U.S

I washed my baby and we welcomed my old man's FR-S to the family! Which would you rather drive?

 

I'd love to have both! The FR-S for the daily drive to work, and the Taco for weekend fun/work.

 

I always use a small buffer when I do Rain-x. I apply it with micro fibers...heavily, then take it off with a buffer. Makes it easier, and never have issues with smearing.

 

I just use the rain x windshield wiper fluid hardly ever use my wipers

 

Ebay sellers will lower the cost of the item and jack up shipping to lure you in. I bought my headlights and corners for $110 free shipping. The same headlights were also for sell for $80 but with $30 shipping. Either way it's $110...

Your tacoma is clean as hell, damn! Love the solid back glass. I would love to take a spin in the frs though. I wanted one of those for a dd for a while but I'm going to go with a genesis coupe now

 

just pulled the trigger on some used Sequoia Calipers, should have them in a few days, clean them up nice (maybe rebuild 'em) and do the brake swap in a few weeks!! Think I'm gonna buy new rotors idk yet, but I'm stoked cause my brakes have been lacking lately and the existing pads are almost shot..

That sure is a pretty part of North America up in your neck of the woods. Looks like it was a fun trip!

 

Rebuild kits from Toyota are usually $20 +/-, so if it was me, I would go ahead and rebuild them now so that you know you wont have to worry about them for a long time.

 

Can anyone answer this question for me

Im trying to wire my halos for the retrofit. Since im very new to anything electrical im kinda worried about splicing into my parking lights in order to get the halos lit.

The Halos came with an attachement wire that has a regulator box on it. At the end of that wire there are 2 plugs/ connectors. Do I cut the 2 conectors off so the bare wires are showing?

Then, Do I expose some wire on the parking lights and connect the halo wires to the correct parking lights wires?

If thats all I do then it seems pretty simple. I guess I need some reassurance that Im doing it correctly.
