So, I just bought my truck and realized that it did not have the plug and harness for the trailer wiring. It has the towing package, and even the bracket for the plug, but it's gone! i got up under the truck and there is a large square-ish-shaped plug that isn't plugged into anything that has been capped with a lot of electrical tape.

I've been looking EVERYWHERE and I haven't found anything conclusive on how to do this without buying from the dealer, which I definitely don't want to do since they are about $200!

Basically I am looking for exactly this, but for a Tacoma...

    http://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-11143395-Vehicle-Trailer-Package/dp/B004BE7WN4/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1379903155&sr=8-15&keywords=tacoma+trailer+wiring+harness

    Can anyone help guide me?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick reply. So this is all I would need? What a relief!

Those are aftermarket kits that splice into the taillight harness and give you a basic 4-pin connector.
They do NOT support electric trailer brakes or electrical power to the trailer, so they are not usable for a camping trailer.

You "just bought" the truck... get back to the dealer and find out what happened to the connector. Most likely, someone broke one off 4-wheeling and stole that one for their own truck, or maybe the previous owner damaged it and removed it.

You don't need the full kit... you just need the 7-pin connector and pigtail that plugs into the harness where it is taped up.

Contact Jorge at Camelback Toyota in Phoenix and he can hook you up with the proper part.
    I can't imagine that part is $200.

The Amazon part that you posted in the OP might be correct, but I have no way of knowing.
You'd have to crawl under the truck and confirm that the connectors covered with tape match those pictured.

You're exactly right. I don't plan on towing anything, but not having the ability to do so legally kinda makes me grumpy.

Dealer has already told me they have no idea, and since it was missing both the pigtail/plug and tie down cleats, I would assume that both are long gone.

And yes, that IS exactly what I'm looking for. The pigtail + connector. Thank you for the contact info!

Yeah, hacking into the harness wasn't something I was excited about. I do not have the pigtail, so I will need it and the harness.

You would think one for a Tundra would be identical to one for a Tacoma, right? I can tell you that they are at least shaped similarly, but I'll do some more research before ordering.

    Thanks everyone!

Check with Jorge at Camelback. He's on this forum and can probably check for you.

Hey did you find a replacement part? I broke my 7 pin and just need the 7 pin to the wire harness.

I wish I could say I did. There a few people selling them used on here, but I haven't purchased any of them. I can direct you to them if you want.
