Not really easy to cut on and off. It reflashes the ECM to load the tune, then again to go back to stock. Not sure how long the BD takes to do this, but definitely not an on/off switch. Best to get all your tests done stock prior to loading the tune.

So a little report from my Premium tune with the BD
When I would accelerate hard the engine would ping a little bit
The performance shift can take a while to shift through gears 4 and 5
The idle is perfect at about 600. Does not even feel like the truck is on
The gauge on the monitor would blotch up and be unstable from 0 to middle
Still very fun to drive but the pinging worries me
Also had an extended crank before starting up after sitting over 12 hours

Yeah I understand its not an on off switch; but probably much easier than most tuning devices that are out for the 1gr. I'm sure it's very similar to the Edge for cummins. Madtoy you have said this and i couldnt agree more; these guys should be hesitate using this premium tune without an AFR gauge to monitor.

The extended crank seems to be common with all aftermarket tuning devices for cold starts.

Exactly. If you hear pinging, you need to install a lower power tune. Everyone that gets this is going to load the biggest power tune it has - but you're flirting with disaster if you aren't monitoring knock retard and AFR.

Does the BD gauges include something for knock monitoring? That's most critical! Especially on a blown motor. I would also ask BD to verify if they're turning off COTP mode. If you have cats and this is turned off (it will prevent AFR from going rich in upper rpm), your cats won't last very long - although you'll certainly make more power for a while.

Thanks for the suggestions on the gauge. I removed the performance shift from the tune yesterday. After driving it this morning it does not seem to pick up as fast as it did with the perfomance shift which is to be expected, just a noticable difference. I hope they refine the performance and shifting tunes with the feedback from taco customers

    Yes, I sold my '13 Taco. :'(
I have this ^^^ guage (Innovate MTX-L) in 2 of my vehicles and have nothing but good things to say about it. Easy to install, few mins to calibrate, super responsive. Innovate makes good stuff.

Curious to see your afr readouts(tmreyes) when you do get one. Thanks for the updates btw.

Still on the fence about this box until I see more documented performance results by end users(not BD). I'm interested specifically how it changes afr's and if (any) knock events are problems, especially for people running piss premium CA 91 octane including myself.

I have many friends running BD stuff on their diesels with tons of success, so for me it's not really reputation that's in question.

    Sub'd.

I did not want to miss out on the GB on the unit which is why I decided to buy now. I know BD will keep updating the tunes as more feedback comes in. I think the timing is making the engine ping a little. With the performance shift tune the RPM's were getting close to 6,000 under WOT which is red line. I should adjust the rev limiter to avoid this if that is possible. I will get a AFR gauge as soon as I can get the money so I may just go back to stock to avoid any possible damage until I talk to the techs at BD

do you think the FPR mod will help keep the engine from leaning out too much (still Will)

I can only speak for 100% factory TRD flash and my own experience with the FPR mod....

    -FPR mod with stock pulley + AFE CAI/DTLT'S/URD y-pipe: 10.0 afr, sometimes 9.9(MTX-L reads sub 10 afr's btw) @ 5.5 psi peak

    -FPR mod with 2.85 URD pulley + AFE/CAI/DTLT'S/URD y-pipe: 10.2-10.3 @ 7psi peak

That said, the FPR mod should probably be done only if you plan on going with a smaller pulley(more boost) as it raises fuel pressure in a 1:1 ratio to boost. This mod ensures you'll have enough fuel for the boost. Now how the BD box affects everything to that nature, I really couldn't comment.

If you haven't upgraded your fuel pump yet, I say that should be at the top of your list even above an AFR gauge.

I would like to do them both at the same time if I could. URD one stop shop for everything. Did you do the fuel pump or a shop. I do not plan on doing Y-pipe or headers

Running the 2.85 stealth puley with TRD CAI 1st gen and AFE ProDryS filter, DTLT headers, TRD catback and fpr mod with the stock fuel pump and absolutly no problems. Still plenty of room to lean out the mixtures via my URD MAF Cali.

Not pretty sure about the impact of the OEM FPR mod, still have to investigate a drop in the AFR when hitting the gas at low RPM in closed loop.

And i'm +1 with the fact you can still run your MAF cali with the BD but you'll have to stored different map for you cali if you switch your BD from stock to premium.

I had a good friend of mine install my Walbro pump at his house....he just so happens to be a master Toyota tech at my local dealership so I trust his skills over my own best work.

Regardless of who installs it for you, do them a favor and run the tank as low as you can prior to the install. The install involves dropping the tank and nothing is worse than having a bunch of gas sloshing around while you're lowering it.

I see you're in Texas...I know there's a lot of people in your state that could probably help you out with any mods. XRU forums is also a great place to connect with the mod guys close to you.

Was just thinking. If I un install the BD tune and go back to factory stock will it go back to the ecu update after the supercharger install?

    good question.

I would think it would scan the current flash and save it as "stock" but that's just my $0.02

Yes. It copies the ecu program back to what it was when it first did the backup, which is the TRD flash program.
