Yea, I've been meaning to get one for the past 6 years, I've just been real lazy and procrastinated getting one...

I just bought a completely new setup, I up graded everything  if you've not found one by Harlan, I'll give you my old setup. It's not the biggest or the best radio and antenna setup but it works.

I may just have to take you up on that offer. The CB isn't a huge priority on my mod list, but wouldn't mind having one.

Yeah my new one is going to be a more permanent setup. My old one was relatively small with a magnetic antenna. I had it wired to just plug into one of the 12v plug ins and I could set it between me and the center console (beside the seatbelt hook up part thing) and I ran the coaxial under the seat through the back and out the back door and to the roof. It worked pretty good and I could take it out in like 5 mins haha and where it was between me and the center console it didn't go anywhere.

Don't spend a lot of money on one unless you use it more often then not. I would get one of these 2 ........

I like the cobra better. Throw a cable, antenna and mount in with it and you have a pretty good setup for under $100

    They make these http://www.purefjcruiser.com/exterior-accessories-c-10/fj-cruiser-bandi-cb-mount-p-501.html

Thinking about buying like a 3' firestick and throwing that on the back with the mount. It would add some horsepower points to my rig. Thanks Gid, that's probably what I'll do, I've had a lot of friends use those cobras for PA and whatnot in highschool.

That mount looks awesome. And that cb is a great little radio. It will do very well for your needs.

I've been trying to get my antennae tuned. I can't seem to get my SWR in check. I've got a 4' K40 super flex mounted on a firestick p-249 mount stud with a quick disconnect that is like 4" long....on the pass. side of my bumper. I've grounded the stud, I've routed my excess coax (ie not coiled), all ran from a 510xl. SWR is hovering at like 3.5  My ant. stick over the cab by about 6". Is this not enough ground plane?

Make sure your antenna mount looks like this ......

    udahebaq_dd2932cadd86480518d262efe2f6e4370aae395c.jpg

Then make sure that you have the mount itself grounded .......

    ete3uvej_b7c103dba245b34bc58e1303eca97849fc0ee3a8.jpg

    vesagu2e_9b8ca908d43199f0dc7419d7ce24b2f9f71496d1.jpg

And run the ground wire directly to the frame. Use the biggest wire you can. I used a #8. I couldn't get my numbers below 4 then I redid my ground with a bigger wire and drilled it straight to the frame and it dropped it down below one. Also is your antenna tunable? I've read that you want your antenna 2' or so above your roofline to get a clear signal in all directions but I don't know if that's true or not

Thanks. Yeah the ant is tunable, and I have tried to tune it. My pl-259 stud mount in drilled directly through the bumper, so in a sense...the bumper is the mount. I added the ground wire last night but regretfully only used a #16 ga. I'll redo it using larger wire and see if that helps.

Whats all this talk of grounding the mount itself? My reception is iffy, especially at highway speeds. Please tell me grounding out the mount will improve this, dying to use the cordless drill I got.

Finally got the oil and trans fluid changed out today. Good to go there. Need to rotate tires, tomorrow on lunch I think.

Ultra-gauge folks...my Avg. MPG started showing a negative in front of it. WTF? I reset it to zero and it's gone now.

You see that diagram I posted? Everything that's green needs to be grounded. Everything in red doesn't. Your cb signal works off of your vehicles ground plane. Every vehicle is different because of various reasons and that's where the tuning comes into play. But no matter what, you have to start out by using the car ground which is the frame. You have to do this in order to get a signal. The better your ground is the better signal you will get. Make it happen son!!!
Be prepared to break both axles at the same time. Lol
