I'm looking to buy the general grabber comp gt's in 265/75/16. So I went to sears to get a price, and the guy behind the desk tells me that that size tire will ruin my transmission? I told him that I want them anyway and he looked at me like I was crazy and refused give me a price. Is he right? Why haven't I heard of this?

Yeah, he's a moron. If guys on here can run 35's without new gears or transmissions then stepping up to what's effectively a 31" isn't going to hurt yours at all.

Trust me; I work for the government.

Actually, I work for a tire company. I've done retail and wholesale, and he's a moron.

Get his name, tell manager. Probably get a discount. If not, go to americas tire. They have good deals and insurance. free tire rotation and balancing.

Increase from 31" to 32" tire will not have an appreciable impact on your drivetrain. Besides, the Tacoma transmission is not the weakest link in the drivetrain.

I wouldn't trust a big box store (Sears, Costco, Walmart, etc.) with my truck at all. Just avoid the idiots and go to America's Tire or Discount Tire.

Great place to buy appliances and tools. As a matter of fact it sounds like the tire and service department is well stocked at that location!

    With tools that is.

The Transmission from the 1st gen Tundra is the same in the Auto V6 Tacoma's. AE750.
You're more than fine running that size tire.
