I have noticed over the last few weeks I have a brake noise when coming to a complete stop. Its sort of a squeak I guess but actually sounds like a BOOOOOP. it almost sounds like an electronic tone but it isnt. So then today I was driving in the rain and had 2 close calls where people in front of me stopped and when I tried to stop my brakes locked right up and I skidded to a stop. Now I do have new 265/70/17 open country AT2's and maybe I'm just not used to them and they suck in the rain. I wouldnt think the brakes should lock up so easily though.

BTW it's a 2011 Tacoma Doublecab Prerunner with 21,000 mi on it. The brakes seemed ok last time I had the tires off but I never looked at the rear drums.

    Any input / suggestions?

It could be a couple of different things, kind of weird though with only 21,000 miles on your truck. I had a similar issue but they didn't lock up on me, my rotors were original to the truck before i had bought it and they weren't stopping sufficiently and i almost got into an accident in the rain as well. Immediately changed the pads and rotors and it's A-1 now.

It almost sounds like your calipers, have you checked your brake fluid etc? Just knock down the obvious first, if you aren't mechanically inclined i would suggest taking it in to get looked at.

When i first bled my new brakes we couldn't get the rears done because it was getting dark and i had a similar issue, weak braking then they would just lock up and skid

Are you sure the brakes locked up? These trucks have all got 4 wheel ABS, regardless of trim level or engine/drivetrain.
Rear drum noise is a known problem... there's a TSB about it. Search on here and you shall find!

For sure the brakes locked. I skidded quite a bit and had to feather the brake. If I hadn't have veered right into the grass I would've nailed the guy in front of me.

Sounds like it's time for a trip to the dealer. Still have warranty?

Billy's set at 2.5", Avid Offroad light bar, N Fab steps. Weathertechs. Rear view mirror relocation bracket. Rear sliding window bar. 265 70 18. Upgraded sound system.
Had the TSB done today and my brakes feel perfect now. The squeak and roughness is gone. My truck has 25k now.
