Neither exists in Charlotte, NC. We don't have any really neat useful, utilitarian stores here except for Lowes and HD. Everything else is crap for women.

I think he might be referring to the $100 OEM tow hook that comes standard w/ the OR package (front passenger side). Then you'll need the extended bolts to come with it.

The problem with using a generic hook is the bolt positions are staggered, causing a generic hook to be cock eyed.

Gotcha. The hook pictured above is for vehicle recovery. They are really beefy and have a nice design to them, but $100

There is actually another hook that you cannot see in the picture. It is attached to the rear of the hook and is used as a tie down point when towing your truck on a trailer. Not that Tacomas get towed very often but hey, its there if you need it.

Thanks, this is good info SC, I was not aware. Seems like a useful device to have if you ever needed it, but wouldn't a front detachable loop like in my pic or the one at Tractor Supply be a better option than just a hook? You say they are $100 - is this a Toyota OEM accessory? I've never seen it....

It is a OEM part, and comes stock on the TRD Off Road trucks. Although, you can replace the chenchy little L bracket tie down point that comes on all other Tacoma's with this hook by using some longer bolts. Don't have the P/N off the top of my head, but saw it over at trdparts4u.com just last week. IIRC they were $90 +/- 5 bucks the extended bolts are about another $15-20 for a pair.

The shackles work well, but the loop on the drivers side that is welded to the front brace is no where near as Strong. If you get to jerking on it too much I could see the welds breaking, and have heard of bad experiences over at TTORA. All in all, I'm sure a shackle through the tow loop will suffice in most all situations.

I bought a Warn receiver shackle from Cabela's. They're about $50, but you might be able to find them cheaper-I used a gift card at the time to purchase mine.

I paid $30 or $35 for mine... ordered it on line... can't remember where. I'll look when I get home. Didn't like the one at tractor supply because the shackle sits sideways... does not swing down like all the others I had seen.

Good point Impulse about the hang direction. Let me know if you can find out where you got yours.

You could always get the one from tractor supply and depending on whether the stock is solid or hollow drill a new hole for the pin that holds it into the receiver to go into and then the shackle will hang down
