Does that really work? I know the Front may work but whats the benefit for our trucks? I had these Cuscos bars on my Honda but why a truck? The Rear looks suspect as hell. Front is cool.

No, the vast majority of that was my tax, I just bought the truck. If it were every year i'd be going back to my college days and just riding my bike everywhere.

    Ahh...

We pay tax every year, 2% of the value of the vehicle.
Pickups also have commercial tags and a weight fee.
Tags for my '06 Silverado were $600 (tax included).
The Taco is much more tolerable at about $250.
I'm paying about $120 for my wife's '04 Rav4 and it doesn't go much lower than that.

You paid $900 in tax on your Tacoma and that seems like a lot ?

My sales tax on a 20k truck would be over $1800.

    But that's a one-time thing.
The 2% tax is annual, based on depreciated value (10% per year depreciation), so the first year it would be $360 (plus tags). Second year it would be $324, then $292, etc....

So 2nd year tags and tax on a $20k Tacoma would be around $500.

Here that would be $2400 +

You know there's no such thing as JDM for a truck that's never sold in Japan, right? :p

This is my first time buying a car, I just thought it would be less. I assumed they would tax the amount after my trade in and down payment, but I was wrong. That and I hate spending money, so any time I spend over $900 at once it just irks me.

A weight fee? I've never heard of that. We don't even have vehicle inspections or anything here, I don't think they much care how much our vehicles weigh.

My truck was $24500 and it was $930...sure am glad I live in God's Country instead of California.

    Good lord!

Ya, taxes are based on the sale price, not the actual cash transaction. The trade-in and down payment are still payment considerations.
We only have smog inspections... it's just something that gets tagged onto commercial registration. If you have a pickup, or a cargo van without rear seating, it gets commercial tags.
SUVs get a pass on the commercial tags, as they are categorized as "station wagons".

I'll be getting my renewal in a month or so, I'll try to remember to post the breakdown.

This is on top of the $1500 destination charge (aka "freight"), right? Canadians pay more than Hawaiians in this regard.

At least his employer pays a portion...
