I've seen that and it might be iffy since my shocks will be all up in that tool box since I have a shortbed... Plus the toolbox I have was free and is an actual Toyota toolbox. Has the Toyota emblem punched into the sides of it. haha. I may still get rid of the toolbox though... Or I could always move it to the back of the bed by the tailgate to act as weight on the ass end.

 

youll need to regear to 4.88 and im sure youre gonna want the rear locked and i don't have the rear arb'd yet.
that and oh yeah i don't have nearly enough money to do that.
im gonna go to moab this year then skip the year after so i can do the sas.

CB question for you guys


I couldnt get my cb radio to work during the Whipsaw trip. My buddy has a cobra cb and wilson antenna and i have a uniden 520xl and 5' Solarcon whip antenna. Basically, he could hear me but whenever he would talk to me it sounded like a fog horn on mine.

Whats the issue? Do i need to tune it? New antenna? CB radio?

 

Ya you need to tune it.

But if he can hear you..I'd guess it's probably on his end.

 

Start by putting an swr meter on it to see where youfor a tune. Is the antenna tip adjustable? Do you have a pic of the antenna mount?

How far apart were you guys when he could hear you?

No my tip isnt adjustable. The adjustment for mine is at the base where you can see two silver rings on the black part. But my buddy's wilson flex is tip adjustable.

We tried at all distances...

 

Ben and Monte and I all have the same radio as you. But we are all running firestik antennas. Not sure how much difference that makes for comparison.

On this last trip I noticed the range varied quite a bit with terrain but we could hear each other consistently better than we could the guys with other radio brands.

how do you have it wired to power and ground Ian?

 

Well, when i first hooked it up i wired the red to ground (body) and black to positive terminal. It quickly blew the fuse and i realised the wires were backwards. Switched them and put a 8 amp fuse in.

So now its got black going to body ground next to clutch. Red going straight to positive battery.

 

redo it and run the ground straight to your battery terminal. Will help a TON with signal clarity.
