    You said one guy sounded like a fog horn. Is that a static sound. Not sure what you mean.

    Were there others with radios? Could they hear you and you hear them?

    going to 4.88s for you would be a waste of money. Your an auto, you'll want 5.29s. Especially with the 35s and auto/4banger

    I didnt try it with the others

    But whenever he would radio me, it sounded like like a horn or elephant. Hard to describe but it was the same sound every time to tried talking to me

    Hard to say what that would be. Probably need to find another person with a radio to see if the samething happens. Then you'll know if its your setup or not.

    im going to put an ARB in my rear diff. i have 4.88s and will sell them for 2K
    so basically gears are free and you buy ARB lockers.

    Montey might be right on this one where as you started out 4.56 from the factory. 5.29 would be nice for power on 35's but it's also a weaker gear set up and break a lot easier.. lots to think about there oh and ill be selling already geared arb'd diffs.

    X2!!! And silas hasn't broke his 5.29 with h8s V6 and 37's. Just CV's and the jack shaft once which is like a 1st gen right of passage or something. Haha.

    Yea i know people say they are weaker and all..but how offten do you see people eat up gears? most the time it was probably due to poor setup to begin with anyways.

    It really does depend on how you wheel. Silas is extreamly light footed and breaks axle shafts that have a weak point in them.. i break axle shafts in a different spot (im not light footed never have been) and it's a stronger spot. all i was saying is how many shafts can he break befor he looses gears. some guys can make them last for ever and others take em out all the time. Fact: A. the lower your gear ratio the weaker your ring gear contact is. B, crawl box can fix power issues.

    so not true torque is torque and i dont care how good your set up is everything has a breaking point..

    And i know of two people that took out gears in moab this last year. Neither of them were heavy on the skinny pedal.

    Lots of 2nd gen guys opt for the 4.56 thick gears because 4.88's are weaker but I know they don't break that often even when you are heavy footed so I don't think gears are a big concern for us.

    now for Konsta when he goes to solid axles and has 44's on there with his boosted V6 and a heavy foot it might be another story but as for us little guys on 35's and down I wouldn't worry about it too much. On the front diff the cv is definitely a weak link and will go first and on the rear, well they are a lot easier to regear if you do break one and probably cheaper than a new axle anyway.. Haha

    everything breaks with enough force and the reason they opt for the thicker gears is to avoid that as much as possible. you sir are on 33's i never broke anything while i was on 33's for 2 years and i beat the piss outa my truck once i went to 35's i started killing cv's and ive lost the spiders in the front diff and the ring and pinion in the rear. All those breaks with light throttle rock crawling keep in mind. im not telling mark to go one way or the other just giving my experiances and knowled for his decision cuz ive ran both sets of gears in my old toy i broke everything from 4.10 to 5.29 gears and the 5.29 gears wear an easy break my friend.

    Yeah everything will break with enough force but there are plenty of guys on here running 35's and 37's without R&P issues. My point is I wouldn't be too concerned about it until you go to 35's and bigger and even then I wouldn't worry too much.

    I have over 50,000 miles on heavy 37's with no breakage. All of it on the same set of 4.88's. I did grenade the factory rear back when I had 33's and was learning to go fast in the desert.

    1)If you're in the air, stay off the gas. (that applies at high speed or bouncing while crawlin')

    2)Don't shock or bind the drivetrain. Don't pin the throttle and dump the clutch in 4lo, ease into it. Full throttle won't hurt anything, just get there smoothly.

    3)On mixed traction surfaces don't spin the tires. Like on sand to rock transitions, shelves, log crossings, etc. Velocity is better, if you have the suspension to carry the speed.

    yup those rules apply but if you like to break those rules or need to in order to make an obstical then it's time to look for stronger solutions. I never once said that lower geared rigs break the gear i just said that it's easier to do so if the rules you just stated are broken.. thats it kids so build it how you plan to wheel it.

    Your also forgetting..Marks truck..has NO power..or torque..haha he will need 5.29s more then anyone ever for 35s.

    Yep! I've got almost 15000 miles on my 4.88's with no issues. Blew up my factory R&P with factory tires on it though...


    Exactly! Mark's 4.56's paired with I4 and auto tranny can't hardly move his 33's. 4.56 and 4.88 are so close together he probably wouldn't even notice the difference, but he'll sure feel a difference going from 33x10's to 35x12.50's...
