I move through the vibration ranges so fast I never noticed it before. I hope once I start towing it doesn't get worse, that would piss me off. I figure that Tom Woods deal would be the way to go.

Heh... its insane that any one of you has to even think about a vibration in your new truck. Toyota builds gteat vehicles. I bought my 2012 and had it for a year. Documented all my vibrations, wrote a letter giving them 30 days to fix it and they bought it back using my states laws on defects. My tacoma was an amazing little truck other than that horrid vib. I did give toyota another chance since I've had other great vehicles. Got a tundra. Best damn truck I've ever owned. Just saying there are always options. Not hating on toyota at all. They took care of me and ill probably always buy toyota.

Mine was very mild since I bought it, then just greased the zerks and torqued the drive shaft, now it's gone. I feel lucky.

Enjoy it while you can, it will be back! :) Mine has come and gone since I've had the truck, but it has always come back.

You gotta get the service manager involved. I couldn't imagine they seriously don't know about the takeoff vibration, so that just leaves them with trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Not very nice... go in with the tsb info and ready. They don't want this problem documented...

The reason yota uses a 2 piece is because the double shafts design is theoretically supposed to mask slop and give the manufacturer play in their geometry and angles from the front and rear of the vehicle, essentially reducing vibrations. Due to the overall length of the vehicle I can't exactly say I blame them, because many trucks are using 2 piecers now. However, given the situation which they have ignored for over 7 years now, they really need to bite the bullet and put some extra time into getting these babies correct. The cure to the solution? Align your front and rear diffs and all angles correctly and use a solid one piece all aluminum driveshaft which is of thicker diameter for heavy duty towing purposes. Add some traction bars as well, and that should remove half the battle out of the equation.

Having said all this I'm really glad I do not have any vibrations!

You remember your measurements? I still had vibes after my 1 piece was installed but it wasn't a TW brand, might try a custom home made trac bar next or I think ATO & Budbuilt makes some.

Bingo. My service rep completed the TSB and notated the paperwork as "problem solved" even though he verbally told me otherwise. I turned my happy ass around and drove straight back to the dealer to have him change it. He wasn't too happy about it and told me I'd have to bring the truck back at another time to have his tech test drive it and confirm - even though he told me on the phone not 15 minutes earlier the vibrations were still there.

Do the home made Trac bars. Solved axle wrap for me and substantially improved my hook off the line, as well as improved turning capability. I'd be willing to bet it may solve your vibes.

They have no ammo against a well armed and informed customer. Great job man! :)

I do love this website. I've had a shake/vibration on my 2011 from the first day. It's a bit annoying, but it only occurs during low speed acceleration and I've tried to ignore it. It hasn't gotten worse, but I do have to try hard to ignore it sometimes.

Today I just had a full ARB OME suspension put on and now it's VERY noticeable and way more annoying. Of course, that's probably due to just having spent all that money and driving the brand new suspension home for the first time while paying extra attention to every little thing.

I keep thinking it feels like a bad motor or tranny mount, but thought I would feel it at different speeds/RPMs. Now that I've looked over the TSB, I think it's time to take the truck and a copy of the TSB in for some dealer intervention.

Thanks again to TacomaWorld and all here who keep the rest of us well informed! (and those who keep my billfold empty thanks to all the stuff I read about here that I didn't know I have to have until I read about it here)

Uh, you realize the minute you put the lift on that you can no longer complain to the dealer about driveline vibes? Good luck with that.

I had the TSB done prior to putting my lift on and it did nothing. My lift actually CURED my driveline vibes.

You're going to need to start trying to cure it yourself. I would start with a carrier bearing drop, and then axle shims. After that, there are some more involved methods you can find on this forum.

The TSB is worthless on a lifted truck. The main part they replace is the leafs and I don't think you want the TSB leafs over the Dakars.

Because I installed the OME suspension or did Toyota write a new TSB that supersedes that TSB?

Dealers service departments are hit or miss for me and I try to avoid them if at all possible, but the TSB sounds promising. It feels more like it's engine or transmission related, so I never thought I had a spring problem. It's always at a high rpm/low speed just before the shift to second.

When I have some time later today, I'm going to follow the procedure before I take it to the dealer:

    http://www.tacomahq.com/2629/driveline-vibration-expand-tsb/

It could be the motor mounts or hopefully just some glitch in the programming, but it's definitely NOT the springs. Those Dakars are freaking awesome, especially compared to those dinky things Toyota puts on.

I just re-read that you have to remove the rear drive shaft to do the test, so I think I'll skip the self testing part and see what the dealer can tell me instead. I've been good to them with my business, maybe they'll be good to me solving this problem.

The motor and transmission mounts might still be covered under one warranty or another and I've already taken care of replacing the springs, so that's one less thing to test and/or the Toyota warranty or me to pay for.

That is exactly what the dealer told me this last weekend. I have had a case open with toyota corporate since July or so, so I am not giving up on getting these vibrations eliminated. I have a 2012 with less than 10k miles, I did not pay 30k for a truck to have this issue especially when under warranty. If the brains on TW can figure out a fix even with after market parts,, I'm sure the engineers at Toyota can figure something out. Anyone know if the vibes are harmless or will they cause a failure down the line?
