I had a realization the other day. Try to follow along.

Go back to 1991, think back if you can to a time of commercial grunge, yes grunge, the music of Mother Love Bone Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, alice in chains and others.

I'm a young kid only 15 and almost have my drivers license, almost some sense of freedom. It's been only two years that East Germans have had a taste of the freedom I'm about to embark upon or so I imagine. I'm listening to my music, my Pearl Jam, my Nirvana and Soundgarden on my fantastic CD player, on my radio and I think to myself... Damn Dad, listening to some stairway to heaven, to Pink Floyd, Beatles, Cars and Creedence is for some old dudes, not my style, not my age and surely I don't want to be associated with it!

Fast forward 22 years... yes, 22 years. I'm at work listening to my Pearl Jam station on Pandora that's blaring through the headphone jack on my iPhone thru a 7.1 channel stereo in my office when low and behold Stairway to heaven comes on. Dafuq is this doing on my Pearl Jam station I ask myself. I decide to do a little looking and search for stairway on wikipedia and find out it was released in 1971. I also find out that Pearl Jam's Ten album was released in 1991... Hmmmm a mere 20 year separation between them... Wait, what? Only 20 years? I'm listening to "Classic Rock" on the radio as a 15 year old as I listen to Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and a few others but now 22 years later the music I was in to is now considered classic rock?

It's an eye opener as to how fast you grow up! I'm remembering the first time I got my drivers license nearly 21 years ago... Take the separation and I could be taking the difference in my age out for a beer here shortly... I can take the albums of my youth out for a beer legally if a CD could drink!

To that I say, Cheers and drink up!

Well almost, actually 14 but it's neither here nor there.

The fact is the Berlin wall fell two years before and I recall maps with West Germany and East Germany.

We digress, 22 years ago I was listening to grunge and the other day I was thinking about how awesome the music was only to realize I'm the old bastard listening to classic rock now...

Oh, I busted out some old school Dr. Dre today! Fuck it, I can!

Ring ding dong ring a ding ding ding dong muthafuka's!

lol. i was born in ’92, but found this very fitting. i love some ’90’s rock and 90’s rap. i love me some kid rock, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, smash mouth, nickelback, ect. most of my friends make fun of me for it. but having 2 brothers(10 and 8 years older) is what makes me like it so much, is ridding around with them thats what they put on. and dad will be 63 saturday and listened to Pink Floyd, Beatles, and all the others like them!
