The tailgate on my 2005 Tacoma is jammed. It appears to be stuck on the left side. I've tried to manually pull on the bar that connects the handle to each side but nothing gives.
    Any ideas?

I take it that it is stuck in the "up" position?

Is there anything stuck in the "jam" between the bed walls and the gate itself? ALSO I have had a problem with large rocks getting between the bumper and the tailgate. This would also cause it to jam both up and down...

    Good luck!

Correct, it is stuck in the up position. I can't see anything that is wedged between the tailgate and the bed wall. I've also tried pushing the tailgate in (forward) while pulling on the release cable with no success.

So, correct me if I am wrong - the release cable itself won't actually disengage the latch?

If that is the case, you may have debris caught in the latch OR you could just have a defective latch. I am guessing that since it is an 05' that it is out of warranty.

HAHA i just read this whole thread and its 8 years old and now revived twice. Ill try to help tho.... maybe try spraiyng some wd40 inbetween the taillight and tailgate where the latch locks in place. Or see if you can take the cover off on the inside of the tailgate to access the inside of the gate and dig around in there.
