Just had Leaf TSB done

Well, it's done. All I had to do was Email the service Dept. I can't believe how well they took care of it. 1-2 weeks ago I decided, what the hey I'll Email the service manager and see what comes of it. Stated my truck bottomed out etc and stated I knew about the 2005-2008 TSB. 1 week went by and never heard a thing. I figured they never read my email or disregarded it. Monday I get a phone call saying my parts are in, I can drop the truck off whenever. That's all it took!!?? Wow. I dropped it off yesterday at 6pm, got a free rental car (a Kia!) and picked it up today at 6:30. I never really even had to talk to the guys in the service dept. It was a ghostly act how this happened. According to the repair ticket:

RH Spring #: 48210-04570
Ubolt #: 90117-A0005


No alignment was performed. I have the TRD so they didn't do the shocks either. One thing I noticed is it rides about the same. The front of the springs have one leaf that is bent down a bit. So you'll only use the 2nd leaf fully when loading down the 1st leaf. Kinda Add-a-leaf idea. I think the truck actually rides better now, even daily driving. I checked the part #'s on the springs vs the ticket; they verify. I have a Oil change coming up in about 1,500 miles so I will re-torque the U-bolts to spec which is low as crap... IIRC 37#?? They might of used a impact for all I know. But so far I'm happy as can be with it. Nice knowing I can actually use the tow package I paid for if/when the need arises.

I can't remember, but i think the TSB requires an alignment to be performed regardless of trim package. Since you're changing the pitch angle of the front end slightly, the the front wheels should be re-aligned

 

Yeah... my dealer said they didn't need to do one when I dropped it off, but the alignment was on the ticket when I picked it up, and I believe the TSB says it should be done.

 

Maybe I should get the TSB done?

If that's a common thing-Then yes it's a good idea for you to get it.

How much did each bag weigh?? (cause I'm guessing that load is at or over the GVWR for the truck....)

 

Dude its definatly over weight but its definatly not common. I'm not sure I'd say each bag was 30 pounds which would be 1200 lbs. but I only drove it 1 1/2 miles like this. It was sketch.

 

The payload is rated at 1375 though, so it had to be around 1400-1500 lbs.

If you use the truck like that with any regularity-I'd get the TSB done soonest.

 

I normally drive empty, but still had it done. I'm planning on having the Alignment done at 10k. Yes the TSB requires an alignment, but they were being cheap I guess. Probly charged yota for it anyway.

 

Got my TSB done 08July2009 with no problems. The service manger looked @ my orginal springs through wheel well (didn't drive or look under to see if bump stops had been hit). He then took my VIN, ran it and stated that I'm covered. He also stated that most dealerships like doing them because they get paid to do them (by Toyota). So, I don't why so many on here have been having such a difficult time getting the TSB done.
Took it in on 08July got it back that afternoon. Rides great. Has a noticable stance differance in the rear, but I like it!
I have the TRD off road pkg, so I didn't get new shocks. I got the new leaf springs and an alinement (according to service ticket).

 

My truck deffinately needs an alignment, heck I could tell it needed one before the spring TSBl. Figured I'd give it a shot and see if the dealer would do it. Oh well, I'm just happy it's done, they got me a rental and all.

 

Just called Toyota Corp. yesterday to open up a second case number for the Rear Leafs on my '09. They blew me off the first time about 4 months ago.

Yesterday I said that the ride was harsh under load, 600 LBS. They asked if it bottoms out, so I said sure.

Should be interesting to see what Toyota does this time. Toyota said I should have a response in 1 to 3 business days.

 

So does anyone know why they won't do the TSB on a 5-lug? I brought mine to the dealership a few weeks ago and the guy said the 5-lugs already have the nicer tsb springs, but how can that be right?? any help?

 

The revised TSB includes Xcab & DC 4x4's and Prerunners only. only 6 lugs are 4x4's and prerunner. The way I understood it.

 

I just scheduled my TSB for July 31st at the dealership I bought my truck from. It took about 10 minutes to get it set up, and while I've got the truck in there I'm having them rebalance my wheels to fix a bit of a shake at highway speeds and change the oil. The guy took some time making sure it was still necessary for my truck, but once he confirmed that the only question he asked was that I am aware of this making the ride firmer when not loaded. I confirmed and we set up the appointment.

My dealership is about 45 miles from my condo in Lawrence Kansas, and my girlfriend went to KU so we'll just go down there and hang out for the day. It's a good excuse to take a 3 day weekend anyway!

 

alignment is def included...you can always go back and say the truck dont ride straight...but either way...it is much better with the tsb..enjoy

 

I'll be taking to to a closer toyota dealer for the alignment. $50 for a 2wheel alignment. not worth me driving 1.25hrs one way to this dealer. But for the free rental car and as quickly and easily as they did it... sure.

 

Shop around....50 bucks for a 2wheel isn't bad...but your can get a lifetime alignment for liek 150....so if you get your truck aligned 3 times....All paid for...and the rest are free....

 

That's a good point. I'm just a stickler about the aignment rack.
