Started with an oil change at the 5K mark on my 2013 Access Cab about a week and a half ago.

Started getting numbers from dealers on a hypothetical, 'what if'.

Why? My wife is thinking we need a travel trailer for camping. (and I'm not really against the idea either) And while my 4 Cylinder is perfect for my daily driving needs, banging out an awesome 23+ mpg consistently, it just won't do that (safely) with a 3500lb Tow Rating.

Long story short, one dealer gave me an incredible trade amount on the Access cab, and I brought home a new 2013 Double Cab V6 this morning.

I'll get pics posted tomorrow after I can shoot some in the daylight, as I didn't get a chance to snap any since I was hustling before dusk set in to get my wheels and tires mounted.

For the number crunchers out there:

Old (har... 3.5 months old) -
    2013 Access Cab 4Cyl 5 Spd Manual SR5 4x4 with 5710 miles
$24,500 trade allowance. $26,832 still owed on the loan.

    New -
    2013 Double Cab V6 5Spd Auto SR5 4x4 with 4 miles
$29,000 sale price. $31,410 MSRP on sticker. (has alloy wheel option, all weather floor mats, factory Fog Lights, and exhaust tip)

Final numbers, $31,780 OTD. ($29,000 - $24,500 = $4500; add tax on that at 6% = $4770; Add remaining loan balance, that amount, plus doc fee and tag transfer = $31,780)

For the demand in this geographic area, I essentially got the new truck at the same OTD price people were haggling down to (if they did not have a trade and had to pay sales tax on the whole amount) all year long; the extra year end lot clearance discount offset the amount I still owed on the old truck so it was a very clean exchange.

Very happy with the deal, even though my payment went up $61 a month.

We haven't bought one yet, but we're looking at 21+ foot units, possibly with a slide out.

So about 4300 lb range dry weight.

Which dealer will be reselling your Access Cab, manual transmission. They are not easy to find here in SE PA.

Toyota/Scion of Scranton was the dealer I worked with.

Taryn Burns was my sales rep. She was phenomenal. No BS, no upsale, no dinking around. I told her my numbers that I wanted and considered fair, and that she had about 30 minutes to figure out if they could do it; she came back promptly, confirmed they could, including meet or beat the finance terms. She had the truck ready for my test drive I scheduled two days later, and also everything (obviously) ready this morning when I was scheduled to take delivery at 9AM.

She will be on vacation all next week though; I don't know if she has any hours tomorrow, but it might be worth giving them a call if you are serious and in the market right now. If you do reach her, tell her you are looking for Elton's basically brand new trade in and that I sent you over. :)

They have both my old SR5 I4 5Spd manual, as well as a TRD V6 6Spd Manual in stock.

(I know about the TRD because I briefly considered it as my V6 upgrade choice, but then decided since I was going V6, having the extra room of a DC was worth it since I have children)

Well, partly that. Partly geography; PA is one of those states that has enormous demand for 4x4 pickup trucks; we NEVER get the kinds of incentives and cash back bonuses that other states typically get.

FWIW, I did not haggle much on my Access Cab, simply because I had too much stuff going on at the time, and wanted a smooth easy sale on a hard to find configuration; I knew the locate was going to be a PITA, as I was very particular about the config; HAD to be 4 Cyl, HAD to be SR5, HAD to be manual, HAD to be Pyrite. I told that dealer (not the same one I worked with this week) that I wanted the truck at $26,000 (MSRP was $26,900) which was the average price paid in my area according to Truecar.com. (essentially invoice, so I was letting them keep whatever holdback they had) He grudgingly accepted the price, and then spent four days hunting for the combination I wanted and then brought the truck in from another state.

After TTL, the OTD was $27,805. I have only made three payments, so after the 3.99% interest, that's why I had $26,832 remaining.

Thanks, I'm not ready yet. More curious. I looked for a couple years for a great deal on an Access Cab, 4 cyl, 5sp manual, SR5 in a dark color till I found my current 2010 with coincidentally 5k miles on it. The PO had bought the truck, then bought a boat, and the boat was too big to pull with the 4cyl, so he traded up to a Tundra. I love my Tacoma. 90% of my miles are just me and my Brittany. I have a small utility trailer I use to move my ATV around, or deliver firewood, or tractor implements. But, never drive far pulling any significant load (trailer rated for 1 ton). Based on how long I looked, and other comments here and elsewhere, your trade should not last long on their lot.

Good luck with your new(er) Tacoma.

Kind of sucks you only had the truck you had really wanted for 3 months but have had both a 4 cylinder access cab 5 speed and 2 double cabs I can assure you that you will love the double cab. And I've towed a pretty heavy steel car trailer loaded with my last double cab with no issues. But I would suggest a trailer brake controller. Also if you don't have a heavy foot you may not notice much of a drop in mileage. My last one struggled to get 20 but my current double cab gets 21-22 MPG pretty consistently. Only a 1-2 MPG drop from what my 4 cylinder got and way more power.

    Updated original post with pics.

It just keeps getting better... I just noticed another thing on the truck that I didn't even realize I got in the deal; Factory Fog lights.

    ROCK. :D

Still in the engine break in, but up to 97 miles already today... LOL

Yup. FWIW, loving this new truck. If I can baby the pedal and get over 20 mpg, I'll have zero regrets I think at that point.

That sucks, I would say there are a few thousand Tacoma in stock right now within 50 miles of me. Any color and configuration you want.

Hawaii is one of those other places where it's hard to keep a new tacoma on the lot.
