    just get two small drawer tracks. weld them on vertically or horizontally, so when retracted, the plate is centered over the hitch. when you need a hitch in, slide the license plate up or over, out of the way, thus exposing the receiver for use.

    the flip up is a nice clean mounting option, but they don't have a ton of range, and the plate still gets bent pretty easy. plus the mount isn't quite strong enough for off road usage. mine made it through about a years worth of use before it completely fell apart.

    you would have to get small enough ones, or cut down a longer set so that in the stowed position, you couldn't see them at all behind the plate.

    definitely the easiest way to solve the problem.

    you could also get a foot or so long piece of tube to mount perpendicular to the bed tracks. then use tube clamps like i have to hold the plate right above the bed. that would keep it at the back of the bed, instead of against the cab like i full bed bar would require.

    i can build any of these options for you guys once i get my tools (which may be sooner than i though :) )
