How many miles are on ur Tacoma, & what all have u had to replace?

40k on my 2008.... still going strong

 

The end of this week ill hit 100K, i can offically say its broken in. Its been fun...i hope to hit another 100K more but im sure ill have to get rid of it in hopes of a newer Tacoma Double Cab someday, family. During its journey nothing major has been done other than PS pump (leaking under warrenty and lower ball joint recall. Im still on the original timing belt and pump. Still looks good...waiting till 120K to change it.

 

I just hit 180,000 with my 01 and i have just replaced the usually stuff timing belt, spark plugs, brakes, oils, etc.

I had a 93 toyota pickup before this truck and I bought it with 205,000 and drove the shit out of it (16 year old thought it was a mud monster, rock buggy, drag truck haha) sold it with 260,000 and the only 2 big things that broke was the MAF sensor went out and the carrier bearing went out.

Someone show me an American build truck that will hold up that good!!

 

Hmmm,
2003 2.4l 2wd reg cab, bought it with 29,600 on it 3.5 years ago.
Now it has 114,200.

Rear O2 sensor went at about 70k, replaced with Wagner, it turns the light on after about 3 hours of driving with regular unleaded.
I replaced the battery with a red top
I replaced all of the belts
I replaced the front wheel bearings, they were left alone for 60k. I love the fact that they used common bearings, #3 and #5 set.
3rd set of front brakes, performance friction carbon metallics, original rears.


I need an alignment, my truck cuts down the inside of the front tires.
I had rotated them less than I should, but I have done OK with keeping up with them now that I know. I found that the original spare was a full size on a different wheel, so I bought 3 new from tire rack and swapped a worn tire on to the spare wheel. I have since bought a matching spare wheel, and a pair for my snow tires. The goofiest thing I have done with my tires was to ask a friend at a garage to flip them. I have rotated them enough to have most of them worn on the inside, now they are all worn on the outside with the ability to get another 20k out of the "new" inside edge.
Even better than that, the dealer now tells me that I need four tires every time I go in, they never noticed when it was the inside edge, now that they are outside, they dont look at the all of the tread.

I have had to replace 2 door lock motors, but they were aftermarket cheapies, not toyota. How does that line go? "You get what you pay for"

 

There is one american vehicle. I run a floor care business and one of my buddy's has always used chevy astro vans (4.3 V6) to haul his equipment in. He has yet to get rid of one with less than 300,000 on it (he's had 6 or 7). We drove the last one to the junk yard (it still ran) with 320,000. But that is the ONLY american vehicle I believe could do that.

Just got the truck not long ago but know it was well maintained as a fleet vehicle for the company I work for (the mechanics are good guys).

Alternator, and the usual regular maintenance things (plugs, wires, battery, fuel filter, oil/filter every 3k, atf/filter, brake pads/rotors).

*** being as I just bought this truck do you think there is anything that is due for a replacement at this point? It runs fine and starts fine (even though the starter is original).

Oh and somehow I get about 25mpg, but I guess that is for a different thread.

 

i have 110k on my 2000 and i have replaced a rear axle shaft and seals, ac compressor, o2 sensor, timing belt, cv boots, front struts that locked up, both front wheel speed sensors. most of them are due to lifting the truck or offroading.

 

Nothing at 92k I love this truck

 

I'm about to take out the clutch return spring because it is squeaking and annoying!

Linear return spring going in (#70 spring from Ace Hardware, $2.50) It'll make the clutch a little more difficult to operate, but its better than squeaking EVERY DAMN TIME I press the pedal in and the pedal returns.

 

2001 Tacoma 4x4 with manual transmission.

Only 46,000 miles.

REPLACED:
1) Front brakes
2) Oxygen sensor
3) Emergency brake cable
4) Front bumper had to be repainted after paint peeled in 2002 (warranty)
5)All the rubber strips around the plastic wheel guards fell off and had to be replaced in 2002 (warranty). They are falling off again.
6) Tranny is whining hard. When I push the clutch in it goes away. Trying to change the tranny oil next week to see if this helps before I take it in for costly repair or get rid of the damn thing.
7) Frame is rusting HARD despite having it Rust Stop Oil treated 5 times since I've owned it. Toyota refuses to cover it under warranty as the frame is "not perforated yet". You know how they tested the frame at the Toyota dealership? They had some 20 year old kid crawl under it in the parking lot and tap on the frame with a HAMMER. If the hammer went throught the frame , it was bad. Mine is fine as the hammer only knocked off rust chunks. I'm not kidding you! Garage kept with 46,000 miles.

Had I known the quality of Tacomas was this bad, I would have bought a Chevy or Ford.

 

192,000 on my 02 and so far nothing but regular wear and tear items such as tires, brakes and what not

 

And your Chevy or Ford engine would need to be replaced at 100K....LOL, amongst the transmission, and everything else.

 

Drive it more. It's not being driven enough. brakes and o2 sensor are maintenence so you can't complain about that. Everyone knows about the rust issue and I thought toyota handled it nicely. If you want to go with an american I suggest you keep your toyota so you have a vehicle to drive when your new car brakes. I had a chevy s10. only 169,000 miles on it and I had to rebuild the engine (twice) I spent 4 grand on the truck. The brake lines broke from rust when I stepped on the brake pedal one day. The timing chain broke 3 times. I owned it for a total of 10,000 miles. I've had my tacoma for 40,000 miles (I've owned it for one year) and I have not had a single thing wrong with it.

 

Welcome to tw. Keep doing whatever it is the people before you did. Their maintenance intervals have obviously been working.

 

83,000 miles and they're ALL MINE needless to say that is runs even better than when it was new!

 

2 and 3 have happened to me.
1 is going to happen somewhat (brakes are squeaking, probably just need new pads.)
4 hasn't happened to me (well, factory paint) but the chrome part that was painted by a previous owner I repainted a couple weeks ago. No biggie...plus it was under warranty, so it cost you nothing.
5 was also under warranty.
6. It's your throw out bearing most likely. Mine is doing it too, but my clutch still works. I can only hear it whenever I'm going under like 10 mph. Whenever you get your clutch replaced, get the bearing replace too, no matter what.
7. All tacomas have rusty frames pretty much. Your frame is warrantied for 15 years from when it was built. so for you, it's got at least 6 years left about. If it fails within those 6 years, you're getting a new frame for free. Other manufacturers would say "F off" and do nothing for you.


Are our trucks perfect? Absolutely not. But the reason why people buy Toyota trucks (especially first gen tacomas, since they're like a bajillion times better than 2nd gens ) is because they're pretty much bullet proof. Every single massed produced product will have problems. That's the nature of the game. But, Tacomas are known for not having too many, and the problems that they do have, are minor.
