I can't remember where but someone said the spring bushing size is wrong and will only work with AP leafs.

Are AP leafs standard? Seems like I recall Dakars are not. I know I don't have the Dakars but unsure about the Alcans.

That last sentence in their description makes me wonder.

"Bushings are included and sized to fit 79-85 fronts and 89-95 rear springs respectively, as well as our springs. Sorry but we do not have bushings to fit other manufacturers springs. Tacoma applications will not fit OEM springs."

Are the bolt holes on the Alcans 18mm?

This is a great way to use space i think. I mean..yea. Not like ideal or anything..but still very smart.

If anything..be cool to make something attach to the tire like that and hold a can on the front. Kinda like how you can mount Maxtrax

 

I'm pretty sure the alcans are 60 mm wide. That is pretty close to 2.25" I think. Within a millimeter or 2.

 

Maybe. That is the real question here. Are the bushing the right diameter or is the spring opening the same as the AP springs.

We're trying to work in a road trip next summer. Wife wants to put the RTT on the minivan. I want to take the truck. I lose the economical argument but its a hands down win for the 'awesome' argument.

 

So I am on stock shackles now with a poly aftermarket bushing in the spring eye. It seems like I can reuse that bushing (fits the alcan) but does it fit the AP shackle bolt that goes thru the center?

Does the AP shackle have sleeve that goes thru the center of the bushing?

ahhh that could be an issue. ran into that with my Alcans and the Skyjacker leafs.

 

More detail please. IIRC you added a skyjacker leaf to your alcan pack. How does that impact the ID of the bushing?

 

the shackle doesnt use a sleeve

I had to take out the stock sleeve when I threw my shackles on

 

When i was first playing around with the different leafs i tried using the main Skyjacker leaf. But my bolts with my Toytech shackles wouldn't fit through the sleeves in the poly bushings on the skyjackers. So i went pack to the Wheelers pack and put the second leaf from the skyjacker pack in instead.

 

Are you talking about the stock rubber upper bushings or the lower bushings or both?

So if I am thinking clearly, the frame mount bushing will not be an issue because the AP shackle comes with its own poly bushings and the OD of the bushings should fit the OEM frame mount. This assumes AP sends the correct bolts.

And for the lower shackle bushing, I should be able to reuse the poly bushings I have now in the Alcan leafs. The only question would be whether the AP bolts in the kit may or may not fit the ID of those bushings.
