So, question before I decide to start packing. What's the weather supposed to be like this Nov-Dec in CO Springs? I'm hoping not 20 degrees and feet of snow.

Never know the weather around here. Kind of like how it was 90 daily and the rained nonstop for a few weeks. :D

That was another brand I saw for the first time today in my research. Glad to hear it's pretty solid.

Need to know a few more things so I can make a proper suggestion. Will this be used for concealment or just shooting and keeping around the house? I personally am not a fan of the PPK but that's just me. As far as brands you've never heard.... stay clear. There's a reason the tried and true options are tried and true and in the grand scheme of things the firearms you're going to be looking at in this segment are relatively cheap. Compromise your options to save $50-$100 and you will likely regret it at some point since a firearm is likely something you will have the rest of your life if you do it right the first time. Don't buy junk when it comes to firearms and you will have some people try to convince you that 'junk' is good because someone convinced them and they're more trying to make themselves feel better about their purchase than helping you out with misinformation. The internet and gun shops are FULL of people who don't get much time behind a trigger professing to know what is best for everyone.

Wait, was someone firing w/o ear protection?

I've never bought a firearm based on audible factors FWIW. The difference once you've got good ear pro in place is negligible at best. That's what suppressors are for if you're that concerned about it.

Unless you're running suppressed on something you KNOW is ears safe you should always be wearing ear pro and eyes. I also HIGHLY suggest a hat to keep hot brass from finding it's way behind your eye pro and burning your eye. A buddy of mine has a scar on his eyelid from exactly this. I'm a safety & gear Nazi so I cringe when people talk about shooting w/o proper safety gear.

It will start out as a gun for shooting and keeping around the house but as my wife continues to get more comfortable with guns she may go ahead and get the permit. We are both taking a CCW class in 3 weeks. So she may just apply for the permit after that if I can find her the right weapon to carry. And I do agree with you on avoiding the cheap and unreliable guns, but I was hoping to find something without breaking the bank.

Not really fixed. If it was to be used as a CCW and If ever you had to use it you will be taking the time to put ear pro in? That was the point of my comment. I also stated in my comment it was the complaint of my sister in law. As I guess she thought guns were not loud. :D

    FWIW....
I have never fired a gun in a CCW/self defense situation but I have fired a gun many times while hunting. None of those times was I wearing hearing protection. I have a 7mm magnum in a very light rifle that will absolutely destroy your shoulder on the range and I'm reasonably certain it would make your ears ring like crazy too.
But when shooting it while hunting, I've never experienced shoulder discomfort or ringing ears.
All I can guess is that there is some physiological response to the adrenaline of being in a shooting situation that changes the way your body is affected by the gunshot?

Yeah I don't wear any while hunting either but on a range I always wear protection. But hunting you are not taking multiple shots... Well at least if you are any good at it you should not be lol.
