So I'm attempting to change my timing belt but i cant get the damn thing on! the tensioner is pinned but its just too tight. Is there some trick to it that all the tutorials don't show? or am i doing something wrong?

Back the bolts off to release some of the tension from the pulley.
Slip the belt on, then half a turn at a time, alternate snugging the bolts up, then pull the pin.

I remember encountering the same thing with my Tundra.

But it does look like you have at least one tooth of slack on the top... that belt should be completely tight from the top left all the way around to the crank.
I don't see the marks on the belt... are they lined up on the cam wheels?

Do you mean the bolts for the tensioner?

the pic was of the old belt, just to show how i was doing it and how much slack i have.

I found that I needed to unbolt the top center roller, wrap the bent underneath it and push down on the roller while I bolt the roller back to the block.

Hope this makes sense, its late here

Ahh... I thought you were showing the new one going back on!

Yes, the 2 bolts that hold the tensioner plunger to the housing.
Backing them off a few threads should allow for enough slack to pull the belt over the pulley... it shouldn't take much. I think I had mine backed out maybe 2 turns.

    Replied!

loosening the tensioner did it, though it was still tight.

    Thanks for the!

On my Tundra, I was really nervous I was going to strip them out.
I was actually a bit more than 2 turns out... I think I may have had 2 turns LEFT... but I didn't want to scare you and figured you'd have the common sense to get it done without stripping the case.

lol you never know, wouldn't be the first time i stripped threads, though usually it's SS in aluminum or SS on threads i made,it happens not much you can do sometimes. But on something like this i definitely use caution. Stripping heads, that really sucks, which i almost did using a gear wrench, i .prefer sockets if i can, but didn't have enough room on one of the bolts.
