I love my SKS. It'd be hard to chose between the SKS and the AK. Tough milled receiver, longer barrel, and CA legal without any modifications.

 

Just make sure it doesn't have a muzzle device that looks like this- I hate your state with an unparallelled passion, and moving away from there has made my life far, far better.

I don't live in California so I'm not forced to buy an SKS.

Tell me about it. Fortunately I'm not forced to choose from an SKS or an AK (yet) so the decision is easy for me.

 

I haven't been able to do as much research on the SKS as a AK, so I didn't know if the SKS's were a decent substitute, I can wait of it means the quality is much better.
There's possibly some pawnshops that have AK's locally.

Same here, I've been reloading .45 colt, so it is the only caliber I have shot at all lately

 

I know the ones you are talking about and have been searching for them myself with no luck

turning 21 in a few months... decided I'm going to apply for a rifle and pistol permit, and go hunt for a gun to own 100% on my own, legally

still keeping my eye out for a SOCOMII, but I might end up looking for a good automatic .40, since I've grown up around wheelguns. Think an auto would be fun.

I'm leaning towards an XD40, since glock grips never really felt too comfortable......

I need more money

might try plasti dipping my SKS camo tan. Just the aftermarket poly stock tho, not the receiver and barrel.

 

Have you looked at the S&W M&Ps? Super comfy, good quality and the price of a glock.
