Bought it used from a private seller with 36K miles. I flew down to AZ from WA to pick it up. Drove up along I-5 during the winter. There was a big snow storm on northern Cali, where Highway Patrol blocked off the highway and was doing chain checks. I heard the message on the radio and stopped off at Napa to pick up a set. When I reached the Patroller, he didn't even checked me, even though I saw him checking with the other cars up front. Looked at my vehicle and just waved me through.

Plowed through that blizzard like conditions, at least to me lol, without even touching the chains. Saw plenty of vehicles on the side chaining up. Right lane was full of semi's either stuck or chaining.

Anyways, 1st experience with truck was superb. And this was with the stock tires with low tread. Now I've owned this truck for a little over 4.5yrs.

Nothing is wrong with my truck. I did have the temp gauge go out, but that was an easy fix with TW. I replaced my annoying cricket blower with the latest version and it's been silent.

It just seems I don't "need" a truck anymore. I do tow and the package load is about 2200 lbs. About twice a week during Spring, Summer, and early Fall. We also load up the bed pretty full when we go camping, once a year, but I know we can easily leave a bunch of crap out and not miss them 1 bit.

Not to mention, not having a car payment is awesome! :D

What I'm looking at is a brand new '14 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Don't really want or need all the bells and whistles.
A simple Limited, 4x4, V6, Tow Package. It comes out to about $37K before taxes and fees.

The JGC looks superior to me. Just looks badass. Test drove 1 and it felt really nice. I know these 2 vehicles don't really compare to each other and fill different roles. But I think I'm ready to get back into a "car", that can tow my boat. Not to mention, it will be my 1st brand new car. I've only bought lightly used vehicles. 2-3yrs old with ~35-40K miles.

But what scares me the most, is reliability. This could potentially be my 1st domestic vehicle. :( Accord, Accord, Tacoma and Tacoma. I'm trying to get the least amount of useless shit on it for it to break.

Not to mention, damn the resale sucks on the JGC. I compared my truck to a 2007 JGC. Those ran ~37K MSRP and are now worth ~12-15K.
Not even in the same ballpark as the Tacoma.

Help me bros. What do you think.

    *edit*
Traded in the Tacoma. Bought the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Got a great price on my Tacoma. Only $1K in depreciate from when I bought it almost ~5 years ago, LOL.

Im going to say keep the truck because although jeeps now are very advanced, their quality isn't. I went with a friend to a jeep dealership to buy a used truck and NONE of the employees drove Jeeps. We asked... lol

don't do it, iv spent most of my life in either Hondas (22) and Toyotas (6) and one day last fall i decided..

you know what, i want a diesel so i went out and bought a F-350 powerstroke and it was complete hell. The truck was in the shop before i even made my first payment!!

needless to say i sold it and bought another Tacoma in June of this year and couldn't be happier.

Its just my opinion and maybe i just had an unfortunate experience but that was my first and last domestic vehicle. Not to mention like you said the resale value blows!!

You know what, I also have a set of brand new Brembos rotors, Hawks LTS pads and braided SS lines to install on the Tacoma. They've been sitting in the closet. I assume I'm still on the OEM pads. Only have 60K miles. It's like 59,881 or something like that.

Speaking of which, I think it was around that same mileage that I got rid of my '02.

Check out the JD Power ratings and get back to us with what you think about Jeep, Smart, and Kia ;)

I'd go from Tacoma to 4runner before buying anything else.

I already had one Chrysler product, and I have no intention of ever going back.

Btw, on the "domestic" thing; my Tacoma was made four hours away from me in San Antonio. Sounds pretty domestic.

There is a reason Jeeps have a poor resale value. Ask yourself if it's worth the payment of a 37k mortgage. I think your correct choice is very clear.

Buy the Jeep, sell the Tacoma to someone who appreciates quality over quantity.

JCGs are good looking vehicles. My fiance drives an 06 Liberty and it has only had a few minor issues, has 120k miles on it. I saw go for it, plenty of people are very happy in their Jeeps, and the Grand Cherokees are very nice. Although going from no payment to one for a $37000 vehicle will sting.

Gotta agree with the others..... stick to your Tacoma man.... they are great trucks.... if not... buy a 4runner.... also great vehicles! I've got a 98 that I've been driving since 2004 with 210,000kms on the odo... and it still running strong... still looks mint too! :)

I had a 2009 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Within a month some of the interior lights started going out and the dealer never figured it out. Mechanically, it was solid, I had a 3.7 V6 and 4x4. It got me through two Nebraska winters, and I even ran it down a drag strip (somewhat of a joke), but it beat a 200SX. Overall, I am much happier with my Tacoma, more capable and I feel like I can treat it like a truck and it won't break. Just my .02

Resale isn't just a value some one places on it, it is placed by demand. No one demands a used jeep because they are not going to get them nearly as far as a used Tacoma. I agree with others that said if you are into getting a well equipped SUV, look at the 4Runner.
You can get a 4Runner Trail with most options for $39,000, and it will be worth twice as much when you go to sell it.

I'm with everybody else here, if you are going to get an SUV there are so many better choices out there than a grand cherokee for the same price. I have never seen a good reliability rating for any jeep ever!
