Just wanted to let everyone know about this TSB
I just put new quiet tires on my 2012 and started noticing a rear end gear noise when letting off the gas at 55mph - 60mph Took it to toyota and they said there is a TSB out for the diff gears in the rear end. They have ordered the gears and will install them when they come in. Covered under warranty. Apparently there is a flaw in the design of the gears. There is a new redesigned set for replacement.

Keep a good listen to your rear end. If you hear the whine noise i'd take it in and reference the TSB.

I have exactly the same symptoms. toyota opened a case on it and the manager told me that there is a bulletin on this. He didnt tell me what they were ordering but If its not the rear diff gears I will let him know that I am aware of the replacements. Thanks for this post! is there a list of our tsb's for the '13's anywhere on here?

    Just a thought..............

Had a buddy with a Firebird, similar problem. Multiple dealers, multiple changes, multiple problems. Noises, leaks, etc.

I suggested he take it to a shop I knew that specialized in differentials, building axles for race cars/hot rods, etc., at least for an evaluation.

They gave him a price for repair and he accepted.

Never had a problem after that repair.

The lesson is that sometimes it's the tech, not the new part. Setting up a gear set inside the casing is not for the faint of mechanical heart. Doing it right requires both experience and patience.

Yes, the experience comes from doing, but doing under the coaching of a seasoned tech, like most other trades.

Anyway, consider this type of solution vs relying on a dealer. It could be just a proper lash adjustment is needed.
