The features I really like are the crank windows and the ability to open the doors the old fashion way, with the key!

I actually like the interior on my Tacoma. It's plush enough for my daily commute, but I don't feel bad if I get it dirty, because it's still pretty easy to clean.
And after the '99 that I had before this, it's got a REALLY nice interior...

I don't understand why people crank about the gauges; I think they're pretty sharp, and they're visible (much more important).
The gauges in the girlfriend's Honda Fit look great, but if you're wearing polarized sunglasses the needles disappear.

Sweetheart, it's a truck, not a Audi A8. If you want something to accent your eye shadow, you can probably get pink seat covers?

    Hahaha

Aftermarket interior mods are cheesy, 100% of the time.

Sounds like he should have opted for a Honda Ridgeline instead.
    *Has a bed
    *Has white gauges
    *Leather interior trim option
    *Has Bells
    *Has Whistles
*Same general price range as a Tacoma

He could always go and find those companies who use to make cheap Honda Civic, fake chrome pieces. Also putting more stickers on your vehicle adds 10 more HP per sticker.

I guess the question is would you pay 45K for a fancy Tacoma?

I think the question is, "is this thread possibly worse than the 'how often do you shift your automatic" thread?

to me its kind of a tie in the "I don't see the point" category :stirthepot:

I am amazed by all the hyprcrites in the thread.

We are almost all guilty of modding our Tacoma's. 90% of people here have a lift and tires on there Taco; To say I should have bought a ridgeline because I want a nicer interior is just asinine. A similar statement is that you should have bought a Raptor because you wanted 33" tires and more ground clearance. We all bought the Tacoma because it is a great truck despite its flaws.

From a lift to a better stereo to new tires ect; No one on this forum bought a Tacoma and left it stock. The truck is not perfect from factory for every person out there.

We are on TW because we all enjoy modding out trucks to suit our needs. My interior issue is no exception.

I am looking for helpful advice from people (a few of which have posted a similar point of view in this thread) who agree the tacoma's interior could use some upgrades. If you believe otherwise, feel free to leave your comment elsewhere.

And for those that say to buy a Limited Tacoma to save money; I have a 2011 TRD Sport Paid off. Adding a Navi unit and Leather seats is $2500.

Buying a 2014 Limited then removing the ulgy chrome, and swapping on my lift and tires would be $10,000+. A lot more than adding a few small upgrades.

I think most people will agree, the GX's interior is a nice place to be. Add a seat of weathertech's and it will clean up just as easy, if not easier than the cloth interior on a Taco.

At what point were the mods I listed cheap?

    $1000 Navi stereo?
    $1500 leather?
Sound deadening interior takes an assload of time.
Real leather on armrests instead of hard plastic.

I believe the original post had a reservation regarding trim and wood wheel saying it might look tacky. I am spitballing to get idea's to improve the interior.

Have you seen redlinegoods? They have some other leather odds and ends for the Tacoma. Shift boot, console cover, and predone door insert pieces. People say their work is top notch quality. Might be worth a look:

The Tacoma interior is the nicest in the mid size class.

If the interior is the most important thing on your mind, buy a 2014 GMC Sierra. They really nailed it with that one.

OP, you're kind of coming off like a snobby rich Dick. No offence.

I think if you would of just said, I want to upgrade my interior, this is what I was thinking, any other suggestions? It would of went much better for you.

I don't think of my Tacoma as low class anything, so to me that's kind of insulting. Is there things I'd change? Sure, but what vehicle is perfect for everyone?

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Ok so im not qouting, just helping where i can.

I would agree, MOST aftermarket interior stuff is junk. Now before anyone jumps to defend brand x or mod a. The majority of the market on everything is crap. That being said... there are good stuff hiding out there

I had my 2003 TRD edition Corolla, which wore full custom leather interior (seat, console, doors) the fit and finish was excellent and it felt wonderful. It did have a few issues, from lack of maint probably.. the leather on the top corners of the door panels pulled up and had to be re-tucked. The wood grain in it was factory corolla LE junk and it went away fast. clean black plastic looked better to me. The seats were inlaid with suede. I also went thru the time consuming and expensive process of installing sound deadener.

The tacoma is a nice balance of form and function, its comfortable and like someone else mentioned is a middle ground. With some improvements either way it can suit whatever we want.

Everything i have read says katzskin is very nice. I would deffinately get the perforated leather if it were me. But im going the non luxury route :)

The wood grain, i would skip it. so far i have not seen any wood grain 2nd gen taco anything that was nice, minus one shift knob someone made on this forum. but it was real wood. Biggest issue i see is there really arent any accent "panels" i could see to make it nicer.

The audio and nav situation, look at alpine. They make aftermarket 8 inch and a "perfect fit" dash kit, it looks 100 times more oem and upscale-ish than 90% i have seen.

The steering wheel idea seems good to me, im sure you can find a heated model as well. heated mirrors, wheel, and seaat sure are nice in the winter.. I have, and plan to have none of the forementioned luxuries

The tacoma limited is expensive, and the softex smells funny. Real leather smells like real leather..

The gauges are soft white in my 2013 and i cant decide whether i like them or not. I personally always liked red, and amber

    as for the doors.. idk..

Luxury trucks have never really appealed to me, although i really thought about leather myself. The above mentioned lincoln and caddi are actually a laughing matter. I dont have any interest in an f150, let alone an overclad suedo luxury f150 with a higher pricetag. The caddi.. well i dont think that brand lives up to the name they have.. IF i was interested in a luxury truck, i would want it to be made by a real quality company audi-lexus-bmw-volovo none of which make one.

Everybody knows the old saying. opinions are like....

    Asinine-extremely stupid or foolish.

Easy, chief. Before you get all butthurt because I mentioned that a Ridgeline might have been a better fit for you, maybe you ought to step back and consider why.

I suggested a Ridgeline as a better option for the reasons listed below. I wasn't suggesting it to be a dink, which is how you seem to have taken it.
*A Honda is just as reliable as a Toyota.
*For what you're probably using it for, the Ridgeline would be just as capable day-to-day as your Tacoma.
*The Honda has the nicer interior that you wish your Tacoma had.
*The Honda has the quieter ride that you wish your Tacoma had.
*The Honda has the one-piece key fob you wish your Tacoma had.

Additionally, I have the experience of having test-driven a Ridgeline before I opted for a Tacoma. I can attest from personal experience that it has a more comfortable ride, as well as a nicer and quieter interior. However, I need more bed space on a regular basis than what the Ridgeline offered.

Unless you're doing a lot of serious offroading with your Tacoma, a Ridgeline would have probably been just as capable for what you're likely using it for.
The Ridgeline has a nicely laid-out interior (with the white gauges you said you preferred). It has an option of leather trim, and has all kinds of interior bells and whistles. It's got a more comfortable ride than a Tacoma, being softer sprung and has a larger cab, being a larger vehicle. It's also quieter than a Tacoma, with more sound-deadening materials and softer plastics.
The Ridgeline comes with the keyless entry integrated into the key fob, another foible you mentioned with the Tacoma.
Additionally, your Tacoma's a DCSB, so you clearly don't need a lot of bed space, which means that the shorty bed on the Ridgeline would work just as well as the shorty bed on your Taco.
The towing capacity of the Ridgeline is 5000lbs, slightly less than the Tacoma, but close enough for general purposes.

The reasons above are why I said that a Ridgeline might have been a better fit. Don't take it personal.

    Phew. Rant over.
