Hi my name is Steven, I am new to this forum and I would love recommendation on a product I can use to remove rock chips off the hood and bumper of my 1999 Toyota Tacoma X-runner (Grey). I have been reading a lot in the forum and I cant seem to find any useful information about rock chip repair and one that actually works well... I would love my truck to look as good as new again.... Any recommendation on a good product???? Please let me know ASAP!!!!!

You can't "remove" rock chips. Rock chipping is when you have "chips" or tiny pieces of clear coat or paint removed. What you CAN do is take your truck to a detailer to see if perhaps they can polish them out or do a light wet-sand with 2000 grit on the affected panel and then polish it up. I always recommend people get rock guards for side panels and bug shields for the hood, or get a "rock guard" adhesive strip to apply where the greatest risk of damage can occur.

I tried a kit by Dr. Colorchip and was pleased with the results. It's not perfect, but I can no longer find the vast majority of the chips that were in the front of my hood and pillars. As long as you aren't talking huge chips, I would check out this kit. Check it out on Youtube (of course they make it look really easy on Youtube but it actually is extremely user friendly in my opinion).

    Paint.
Unfortunately, it's the only way to TRULY get rid of rock chips.
Unless of course you lay a strip of Rhinoliner across the hood or something (don't laugh, I did it with a Nissan Hardbody back in the day, and it actually looked pretty decent)

Do you have any recommended website where I can get like a self touch up paint kit.... I saw this commercial on Car Crazy on the Velocity Channel this past Sunday for this company called Ez Chip Repair and I went on their website Ezchiprepair.com... it seemed pretty good and had good reviews... Do you know anything about this product or know of anyone who used it before? because am thinking of giving it a try. Please let me know... thank you

thank you for the advice... the chips are more like scratches, not really deep, so I was more looking forward to a self kit in which I could apply myself and less expense... I saw this commercial on Car Crazy on the Velocity Channel this past Sunday about a product called Ez Chip repair... I checked out their website Ezchiprepair.com and they had fairly good reviews and the product seem to work well.... do you know anything about that product or know of anyone who uses it... I am thinking about giving it a try, so please let me know.... thank you

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with the EZ Chip stuff...

I know you can buy brush-on touchup at the dealership, but it usually looks like crap (of course, I can't paint for sh*t, so that might have something to do with it).

The local body shop guys are always a valuable asset; just stop by and ask them for advice on what to do with your scratches/chips. Since they can see what you've got in person, I'm sure they can give you a couple of good options. Plus probably the bad option of repainting your entire hood...

Dr. Colorchip works great. Expensive but it covered all of the rock chips on my rocker panels and hood. No blobs either.

Those sound like good options for your situation and what you want out of it. My paint chips were deep and starting to show rust so i hit them with a dremel attachment and sealed it with the dupli-color or whatever. Its a little blobby and looks like shit but was more worried about rust spreading, keep us posted on if those other products hold up over time, and pics!

Never actually heard of that product.

I agree with this one. Dr. Colorchip is a long standing product with great reviews. You could start with them.
