Dang. Sounds like a great time. Those rocks look pretty big. Are you running 35s?

Ok. Well I had an axle seal start to puke out gear oil, I noticed it started leaking the first day on the trail. So I went to south Lake Tahoe Toyota and got a new seal. A risky got 3 because they were so cheap. I put the seal in. I noticed some play in the right rear wheel bearing (side that was leaking). Turns out it had a shit load of play. Like holy shit. Totally unsafe. The trail ruined it fast. There must've been a little before. So the Neal seal leaked immediately. I had to find a new wheel bearing before I could hit the road. Called up airport auto wreckers in reno, looking for a complete axle shaft and backing plate. they had one. They had an 07 4x4 taco in the yard luckily. So I ran there, then to Reno Toyota again for more parking lot wrenching. Luckily the axle shaft assy is a quick bolt in. So I got that in, then over to a driveline shop where my friend had a driveshaft already made, and ready to install. Another driveshaft R&R on the same truck, I think 3rd time on this trip. THEN and only then, did we start heading home. Just got into a hotel for the night. Very long day.

Dang man. Sounds like a simple trip gone crazy. Glad to hear you are back on the road though. Did that just happen from wear and tear or did something major cause it?

A lot of abuse, contamination, and the drive down, then the first day on the trail was enough to just do it in for good. I had to make a lot of squeezes.

Glad to hear you got it fixed, what's the reason you needed the whose shaft though and not just the bearing?

Much easier to swap that way. No need for a press/etc. to remove/reinstall the bearing and retainer ring.

Eric (relentless) has the bearing tool I made just fyi. Pretty easy job if you know what you're doing. Too bad I missed ya.

You come down through McDermitt or Elko? I'll be back in Elko Friday night but I assume you'll be long gone.

Today! I drove 19 hours. Just pulled off at fernie for a nap. 3,5 hours from home. Right near lake koocanusa, so i might go there if I sleep until morning.

I was in winnemucca last night, then drove all day until right now, stopped in fernie BC.

Oh, and the taco I got the axle shaft from had been in an accident. I didn't think of this at the time, but I should've asked if the rear axle took any hits. Well it did. The axle shaft I put in to replace mine, is bent quite severely. The flange is way off. Tire wobbles like shit. But it got me to here, so I suppose it did its job. Sucks that I won't be able to keep this shaft for later though.

Haha yeah I just saw him tonight at work. He said the trail was much more difficult than he originally planned. He said they ended up going down Sluice Box by accident and it was not fun....

Souns like all of you guys had a lot of fun, but dang I'm glad I haven't tried to take my truck up there yet lol.
