Looking for some rotors, my 2009 6 lug will not pass inspection, looking for some decent rotors that will not turn into a rusty mess in a year. Do Zinc rotors work? Anybody have a recommendation? Would like to spend less no more than $90 a piece. Currently live in Vermont where salt exposure is non stop during the winter

Where can i get some non-slotted Brembos? All i can find are the $$ sport style. I also worry drilled or slotted will rust faster

Any good name brand, check out Rock Auto they have stuff dirt cheap and list it under economy, daily driver and premium type categories.

Why arnt rotors passing inspection? Because of the surface rust?

In my experience the winning combo lies in kickass pads like @carbotech and the cheapest rotors u can find. Your breaking performance is in the amount of friction a performance pad will generate.. And good pads will terminate any rotor. Why waste cash on something for looks?

Are wearever or wagner rotors worth a shit. They have them at my local Advanced Auto Parts store?

I have never had problems with the wearever (2 year warranty) but the wagners are better. I think they dropped all the wagner prices because they don't sell because everyone wants the cheapest.

Anyway for probably the same price you could order a premium one on Rock auto

I bought Duralast blanks from Autozone and they've held up just fine. I'm just south of you in MA but spend a lot of time in upstate NY during the winter. Only thing is the duralast rotors don't have the threaded jacking holes like the OEM ones so make sure you put a healthy dose of neverseize behind the rotor so it doesn't rust to the hub. They were around $50/ea when I bought mine about a year and a half ago.

Unfortunately, short of the machine shops making one off custom setups, I don't know of any companies making them over here, Billy.

because not all steel is equal. Shitty quality rotors will rust to hell sooner and put me back in the situation I am in now.

Most economy and daily driver (parts store) rotors are made in china with crappy pot metal.

Aka melt everything down in a pot and turn it into a new rotor.

They aren't 100% steel they are a mixture of whatever crap they can find lol

There is a lot more to it than that. Create too much friction and you get brake fade. Brakes also have to efficiently dissipate the heat caused by that friction. Also, if the material used to make the rotor isn't stable, the heat/cooling cycles will cause them to warp very early into their usable life.

I agree that spending a shit ton of money on rotors for a pickup is kind of pointless, but you can't discount the benefits of a quality rotor.

As far as pads, it depends on what you're looking for. Most high mileage pads will chew up rotors pretty quickly and may sacrifice that initial bite. Softer pads might mean better initial bite but you'll have to replace them much sooner and could lead to excessive dusting.

Brake fade typically happens when u experience temps outside the working range of the material affixed on your backing plates. I personally use pads that have an operating temp range of 50°F to 1100°F + (10°C to 593°C+). I selected these because they have an excellent initial cold rotr bite, and actually get better w heat. Personally I think u need to read a bit more on breaking theory before giving out misleading information.

Right... I'll jump right on that :jerkoff:

Nothing I said was even remotely misleading or incorrect.
