I like to do All Mountain/XC, I know I want full suspension Fox CTD shocks, I want mid to high end components, and carbon would be great, but I could live with alloy. I was originally looking for one in the $2000-3000 range but have started to think I might have to go up to $4200ish max trying to stay as well below 5000 as possible, it's a hard game to play. Once I think I found the right one I find a completely new brand to look into and everything goes to shit again. I want a site that you can put in your criteria and it would look at ALL bike manufacturers and give you a list.

But I love road and mountain, nothing beats being able to ride 60+ miles but also being able to bomb down some single track there is nothing like it

If I had 5,000 for a mountain bike this is what I would get. There are 3 levels. http://www.ninerbikes.com/jet9carbon

I went to college at sonoma state and we had some of the best mountain biking 15 minutes away at annadel state park. There was endless miles of single track. I knew them all by then end of my senior year. Then I moved back to the east bay and there were no single tracks. My dad rides road so I switched. I have been road biking the last to years and did my 3rd century ride last weekend.

This is my bike. It's a little low on your price range but it was at the top of my price range when I was in college.

Oh and I also want 27.5 wheels... I've ridden a 29er and I just feel weird on it, like I'm a little kid again riding my parents bike.

Sign up for Promotive. They're having half off deals on carbons right now.

On a side note, why does anyone spend that kinda money on a bike? I've got a Mongoose that I spent a few hundred on, have a couple thousand miles on in the past 10-15 years and still working fine.

Ive got an older Mongoose when you had to order them, before walmart sold them. Its like 5-6 years old and its still awesome. I need to ride it more actually. Although i may have outgrown it.

If i spent 1k+ on a bike i better be on it every day to make me feel worth it.

Who in their right mind would take a perfectly good truck and dump thousands of dollars into it?

Just kidding. Some people just aren't bike riders and any old bike will do. Thats cool. At least you get out and ride. I happen to race Downhill and Enduro MTBs and the bikes that are built to win (insert race truck analogy here) have more expensive (higher quality) parts. That's just the way it is. Like my dad used to say. "Speed costs money. The more you spend, the faster you go..."

Mine was pretty pricey. I flew to Colorado to be measured and mine was hand made for my fit.

I'll probably be riding a bike now. With moving to Key West I doubt it'll be worth driving to work everyday, might be maybe a 15 min ride from my house. I have an older generic mountain bike but it still works fine.

If you can ride it and it's safe, it will do just fine. :)

Haha I don't know if it matches those requirements. It's been sitting in a corner for the last year and a half but ill def make sure to fix it before I attempt to take it for a spin. Don't want to embarrass myself in public.
