I installed an aftermarket headunit, now my odometer light won't turn on? I checked the fuses inside the truck and they are all good.
Can anyone help me out with this??

I meant to put fried not fired.haha

Working on it. Never Ending :)
Could you have possibly crossed a wire and I just remembered that when I installed my aftermarket deck on my 2009 tacoma I remember reading something about not connecting the illumination wire or something as it can blow your instrument lights, not sure if that happened to you but hope this helps you.

I did something like that and shorted out my dimmer switch ( I got lucky). that could have happened

I took it to a shop, and they redid the wiring. They said I might have to buy a new gauge cluster.

Change your dimmer first. It is VERY common for aftermarket stereo installations to blow the dimmer.
You don't need a new cluster. Don't go back to that shop... hopefully they didn't fuck anything up.

I x2. I brought my to the dealership and they told me I friend my cluster but they looked into it more and I shorted my dimmer switch. think about it Cluster- $900 dimmer switch- $134. this is through the dealership so I can understand if pricing is high. Check before you make a 100% decision

    First thing I tried! Haha
It's just the background lights that don't work? Engine light, gas light and all that good stuff works

To be able to see how fast you are going at night?

    I'd say yes.

You know anyone else in SoCal that you can test their dimmer switch before you go spend $134.

    He said the "background lights"
The odometer lights, and the rest of the dash lights, are all tied to the same circuit on the dimmer.
Odometer would be most noticeable during the day.

    Nope.
Not a "standard" off the shelf part like it was in 1969.
The same dimmer might be found on other Toyotas, but it's going to be Toyota specific, and it's not the kind of thing that fails regularly so you won't find it at Autozone.

its sounds like its the dimmer...let me know if you need help checking...if you have someone else local test yours on their tacoma (not theirs on yours incase theres a short...)

$134? i remember i had to replace one on someone trucks like a year ago because they shorted it trying to install an aftermarket headunit...it was like $50-70 ish iirc
