Hate to admit it but I'm new to whiskey. A buddy bought me a bottle of knob creek 9 year and it's got me hooked. For you whiskey pros, where does knob creek fall in whiskey quality and drink ability ?
Also, is drinking it with ice acceptable or looked down on?

    Any way you like it.

For some whiskeys, a small amount of water really opens up the taste and smell.
Personally, I drink most everything neat, and room temp, but every now and then I'll make a Manhattan, which is iced (while mixing).

Got a Four Roses Single Barrel which is nice and smooth. Also, I like Elijah Craig 12 year. But Maker's is my standby.

That's the left coast for ya haha. Here in GA, as long as your keys aren't in the ignition, you're good.

Knob Creek is good. Really good lol. I drink good stuff neat or with water and crappy stuff, I either mix with Sprite or club soda

Welcome to whiskey, and to whisky. Knob creek is pretty good, but really it is all a matter of personal taste. I prefer Basil Hayden and Woodfords Reserve over Knob for drinking on the rocks (or one large rock), but I drink Makers as my well bourbon, and often will mix that with a little ginger ale. My brother in law loves KC.

There will be no looking down, unless you start saying shit like Jack and Coke FTMFW.

There is no reason to spend an arm and a leg to find a good bourbon. There is a lot of hype and marketing out there now for more expensive stuff, but there are some very good reasonable priced ones, too. Kinda like wine...

Johnnie Walker Black is a solid whiskey IMO. Great quality and a solid introduction to higher end whiskey's.

Rule of thumb with Johnnie Walker:
the rich drink Blue, the working man drinks Red, and in between there are various rungs on the ladder of purchasing power (black, double black, and platinum, plus other limited editions)

Last night I bought a bottle of Macallan 12 which I find a tad spicier than I would prefer, but excellent overall. Also, another excellent scotch whiskey for an introduction into finer scotches.

I have a friend who is a fan boy and pisses me off when ever we go out to buy something. He'll stick to "oh, this is the best. It's so good, nothing else is better," and I'll practically have to force a new whiskey in his face, and he'll jump on that band wagon
and tout to everyone he's "this kind of whiskey" man.

^^^Don't be that guy. Continuously try new whiskey's. Go do tasting. Refine your pallet and gain perspective on the whiskey world.

This is usually what I get when I'm out for dinner. Most restaurants have it and the server doesn't usually have to feel like a fool when they can't remember what they have. Lol

I love Basil Hayden, good smooth drinking. I also drink a few lowland single malt scotch whiskeys (Laphroaig was the last). These have a deep earthy/peaty taste. The last highland single malt whiskeys I drank were Aberlour' and Speyburn (aged 10 yrs). It all depends on the mood I am in. Looking through this thread I see I will just have to try some more soon.

I work at a liquor store part time. I've sold a lot of booze and heard a lot of feedback. Out of all the Whiskeys I've tried, Wieser's is the best and gives you the nicest feeling buzz.

Just thought I throw this out there. My next door neighbor has launched a new brand. Called Iron Smoke Whiskey, it's only available in NY at this time, but will be expanding in the future. Applewood smoked, it's smooth and drinkable. Coming from someone who doesn't normally like whiskey, that's saying something. Premium priced, but worth it in my opinion.

I prefer bourbons over blends and like to mix either with a little ginger ale. Higher end ones I like on the rocks. I recently started trying some new scotches after not really being a big fan, couple different Johnnies were ok and then was gifted a bottle of Macallan 25 and was blown away how smooth it is. I checked into it and was floored by the price but did come across the Macallan reserve at Costco which is like 17/yo I believe and is also very nice and doesn't break the bank.

I'm a fan of Booker's neat or with just a splash of water, depending on the day.
