Which do you prefer? I am looking to buy a 13 or 14 Tacoma and haven't decided what I want. Which do you prefer? I'll keep stock radio either way so I'm leaning towards it in the radio. Thanks

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
Probably safer in mirror, so you can keep an eye out for things that may be missed from camera; I don't have so I can't say from experience, but seems legit.
That being said, bigger screen on radio.

I changed mine from the mirror to the radio. I think it's much better.

My 4runner is in the radio, and in the taco it in the mirror. Prefer the mirror since you're looking in the mirrors when in reverse.

Mirror, like others have said you can quickly look from rear view/side mirrors to camera without too much head movement or getting tunnel vision on the camera

I purchased the harnes on Ebay as well, and I also want it to be displayed in both the mirror and HU.

How is the install different as some people with the same harnes seem to loose the mirror??

    Thanks,

    Jay

The mirror is basically in the line you're looking back and forth from your side view mirrors so that makes it easy.

But sometimes I wish it was in the display just for fun

Im curious about this also. Where does the harness plug into, and is it hard to access, does it involve removing the radio from the dash? Thanks

When looking to buy I test drove a 12 model and it was in the radio, then bought a 13 model and found it in the mirror. The version in the radio was so much more clear along with being much bigger. I'd like it back in the radio myself.

You're not old school, you can't rely on just the camera. The side mirrors do just that-cover your sides. The back up camera only benefits rearward vision. I have had both and although the screen is smaller in the rear view mirror it is truly a better location. All of the different commercial vehicles that I have operated with back up cams the screen is always mounted near the headliner.

I have an '11 I tapped into the video line in the kick panel and run it to my aftermarket head unit.

Does the harness work for the stock radio in the 13 Tacoma or is an aftermarket head unit needed?

I used the eBay cable with the stock head unit. Instead of cutting the feeds the mirror display, you tap into it and split the signal to the radio display. Tell the vendor on eBay you want both displays to work, so the instruction sheet (which comes with photos) will explain the tap into and not cut the display wire. I just removed the insulation and soldered to it. The area where you tap into the video is behind the coin tray to the left of the steering wheel by your left knee.

It is pretty much plug and play. You plug into the rear of the stock radio after removing it from the dash. The cable has a Toyota plug the fits right in. An additional wire with a factory pin on the end plugs into an existing plug on the radio. Probably took 40 mins for the mod. He will also make it with a switch so you can have both or either displays working.

The only issue is that the factory camera does not have the lines. They are in the mirror display, so no guide lines in the radio display.

Thanks, I'll try them out. I'm still a month away from buying.
