Much less gay... Okay that feels better.

40+ mpg all day long isn't "gay". $40 will get me about 500 miles!

14 Prerunner DC TRDOR. Getting 17.5 - 18.5 for the 1500 miles I have had it. Last tank I got 18.5 taking it easy, so this tank I was more aggressive and it only dropped to 18.3.

Dude, just look at the numbers that he posted (and you quoted)...he was consitently getting 1 or 2 MPG less with the manual (vs the auto).

Sorry for the confusion, i dont think your prius is gay.. The jeep compass IS. That was the point from the begining :) when you said you didnt want to mention the other vehicle on here, i picked one of the worst i could think of in relation.. The jeep compass, trail rated of course :)

If it was a different look, i would consider one myself to drive on trips etc. But i would rather a coupe like a civic myself.

Absolutely not, i preffer my manual because it is what i like. But It is more work to get "normal" mpg, and its more work to not get horrid mpg.

In almost every older car yes you would net a better MPG with the manual. BUT really, with the 2nd gen tacoma and similar driving styles, i dont see any situation where it would be possible to get better econimy with the manual. And for what its worth, backing a heavy trailer in a tight place with the 6spd sucks, its got a tall reverse gear.. Towing forward it is geared great!

Ya, manual CAN get better mileage than the auto, but modern autos are a lot "smarter" than they used to be, and with lockup TCs, it's gotten to be pretty hard to beat an auto for MPG, and even performance on many vehicles.

Also, when it comes to the 2nd gen taco we have shorter gearing in the 6spd manual than the auto, so its turning more rpms and most speeds.

i took this picture for demonstration, this is 6th gear in my tacoma. Someone asked awhile back.. its only for demonstration of the 3k ish rpm=85ish mph, tried to get it close in case anyone wanted to do a comparison on thier auto gearing

In most newer cars i think it would take a good driver to match or beat the auto for economy, the 2nd gen tacoma 6spd just has a helping hand to be behind the auto in MPG war

    Wow.
And doesn't the 4.0 normally run lower than the 2.7?
I'd have to be out of OD to pull 3k on mine pretty sure... I'll push it up to 80 tomorrow and see where it rides.

yea, if i remember right my 2.7 was lower, for the pic i was shooting for 3k rpm for easy comparison if someone wanted to do a ration or something.. not me, i hate maths :)

But i can do a pic at any speed/gear combo for comparison purposes if it would be easier (not sure on your local speed laws, or your desire to break them) interstates 75 here so 85 isn't reckless or anything :)

With my taco 6spd vs. my 4runner auto, same engine obviously, 4runner gets at least 20mpg even with haul ass driving. Tacoma lucky to get 20mpg taking it easy and shifting at low rpm.

I want to get a golf tdi for MPG. XD, roll coal in a hatch back.

Im in the same situation, 07 4runner auto gets 20-22 mpg highway
    [IMG]
2013 tacoma manual is hard pressed to get 19.5 highway
    [IMG]

and the 4runner had the rack, and a taller lift with bigger tires

I only have about 2800 miles on my truck but I'm getting about 21 MPG. Hopefully, the mileage will improve as the truck gets broken in. I do drive conservatively and this mileage is back and forth to work and a 70 mile round trip once a week at 65 MPH. I'm taking a 8 hour highway round trip this weekend. I'll report my mileage when I return.
I forgot to mention I have the 4.0L V6 engine.

I'm getting an average of 23 in mine but I do mostly fwy miles. I have yet to spend enough time around town to determine city mpg but I'm guessing around 19/20
