FJ Cruiser vs tacoma

I've owned 3 tacomas and now an fj cruiser.i love them both.I have to depend on a trailer now but it's not the end of the world.i love the plastic floors in the fj.they both hold their value very well.it really comes down to if you need the bed or not.the fj back seat is tight but again,not the end of the world.

My access cab tacoma back seats are tight.. But shes got 6 feet in the back.

The plastic floors are badass. I have been thinking of tracking down, or pricing from toyota the vynal floor for my 2013 (they do have one)

 

I wouldn't want to have to stick adults in the back all the time.its not as bad as an xcab.we have a new born now with the rear facing car seat.shit is really tight,like really tight.i bought a cargo carrier to protect my kids from my tools in case of accident.i always did the pick up with a cap but wanted something different.the fj world is just as crazy as the Tacoma guys.total die had muth fuckrs

 

They should be, there are sacrifices they made to live with the FJ

Seriously though, i love the thing i have debated buying one a few times but i cant live without a truck, and it just works better for my financed vehicle to be a tacoma.

I would like to see a solid axel up front, but really ive seen IFS FJ's do some bad ass things i wouldnt have believed come from IFS. and the road manners are much better, which is where most of the miles of the 30k toy come from.

 

It was hard to not have a truck.i went 6 months and ending up buying a crew cab dually for a spare truck for side work and home depot runs.sold the dually cause 8mpg was killing me.went with the fj and a 5x10 enclosed trailer.this set up works for me for now.

 

Since he said he is a full time college student I can't imagine his #1 concern is hauling people, and just like myself when I considered the FJ vs. a Tacoma, my idea was if people needed a ride I'd tell them to suck it up if they had any complaints lol. Rear cargo space is still plentiful too...even though the rear seat row is a little cramped.

But to be honest it is the coolest damn niche vehicle out there for sure...almost like riding in a little MRAP or something military like that.

I'm not sure if Wrangler competitor was what Toyota had in mind - a good portion of Wrangler owners bought the Jeep for the open top. The FJ was relatively cheap to develop - basically 2-door 4Runner with bodywork outsourced to Hino. A solid front axle would've driven up costs considerably since it will be the only Toyota model built this way. Even with low sales, the FJ is still quite profitable for Toyota.

 

Now that my taco is pretty nicely modded, my wife wants to drive it to work all the time. I got her thinking about trading in her sienna se for a 4runner trail
Never been a big fan of the FJ unless its setup for trails...

I'm looking at going back to finish my BS, and 81 units means the '08 Taco and '04 Rav4 need to last at least another 100k.

 

yea fuck, I couldn't even afford to pay attention when I was in school, and I worked midnights full-time to put myself through it.

 

OP didn't mention which school, right? Could be Harvard, Yale... financed with family money.

I had a used car in school, but never drove to school because the parking garage was farther from the lecture halls than the nearest subway station...

 

I had a 2007 FJ and I have a 2013 AC Tacoma. So, the FJ was very cool when I first got it (april 2006 so it was one of the first in my area) but it got old quickly. It feels big on the trails and small when it comes to back seats and storage. We would take our Prius to home depot because you could stuff just about anything in the back of that car. We fit a full double vanity in that sucker and could still close the back hatch! The FJ is fine if you don't own a house and need to do house stuff (haul lots of things) If you do, get a trailer with your FJ. Both the AC tacoma and FJ both suffer from those STUPID extra half doors. They're fantastic when you're away from everything but they are absolutely miserable in a parking lot. Oh well...

I quickly grew tired of the FJ...the styling inside and out wore on me. I LOVED it when I first got it but not so much on a day to day basis. The tacoma is great day to day but I haven't had it on the trails much. The bit I have, I miss the short wheelbase of the FJ!

 

This is a real crock of shit! I have had three FJ's starting with the 2007-2010. I have gone anywhere a Jeep Rubicon could go with no problems. My FJ is way more fun to drive. More responsive than a jeep, quieter at 80 mph on the road. I can sleep in the back if I need to. Has way more storage than a jeep. Although I love the way jeeps look, the FJ beats it in every category. I lemon lawed in my 2006 jeep to get my first FJ. It spent so much time in the shop that they had to take it back and pay me back for every penny that I had in it. I have about 180,000 miles in FJ's and have never had one single issue with them. I have taken them all over the trails in Colorado, Utah, NM, Arizona, Montana, Oregon, Washington without incident.

I now have a Taco just because I am towing a trailer and thought it might be better for that. So far, I have put a stage 4 Icon suspension, new wheels and tires. When I hooked it up to my small travel trailer the rear end dropped like the springs were not even there. Now I have ordered a spring pack from Alcan to fix that. By the time I get through with my Taco I will have way more money in it than my loaded out FJ. Oh, did I mention that the Taco is a pig to drive compared to the FJ and gets worse mileage. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Taco, but it is no FJ.

 

yeah... up in NH we cant even spell subway's let alone build one. I had a 1998 chevy s-10 reg cab 2wd, that I bought with a credit card .

 

when i was in college i didnt have a credit card. i worked. alot. and i turned cars. but i drove a toyota pickup i bought for 100 bucks.

 

I drove a '76 Datsun pickup that I borrowed from Bro-in-law after the trans in my Camaro blew.

 

yeah that's cool, I just wanted to start building credit so I could afford a nice truck one day...
