haha no offense, i just couldnt get a credit card.

I ended up getting a secured loan on a yamaha dt50 enduro for $750 for my first loan to build credit.

My credit isnt amazing but damn i appreciate the credit i do have! I had a student loan that messed mine up after being deployed to iraq. It was my own fault really, they said they would contact me after the deployment when payment was due and i waited 3 months before i called them. Good news is soon its off my score and i will have great credit! And if i have any choice in the matter it will never ever be messed up again!

 

What is the cost of a rubicon unlimited? serious question

i have seen reviews and comparisons and one specifically when they launched the NEW engine with more power nagged about how it was rated for more but felt more sluggish.

I wish the FJ was more like the FJ40 myself, and i believe that a rubicon unlimited probably does beat the FJ in some categories. BUT i seriously, seriously doubt that its the overwhelming landslide of a victory that you just described.

Jeep owners have made claims just like that with every single jeep. And the Rubicon's and recent jeeps have made improvements. BUT they are riding on a track record of shit. lots and lots of shit. To go from shit, to better than an FJ in every way magically? nah.

I have yet to drive a jeep with 75k 100k plus on the clock, that hasnt had tons of maint done to the front suspension specificaly that wasnt HORRID to drive. let alone as nice as the many many toyota FJ and other vehicles that share its suspension still drive.

I have thought about buying a jeep, many times. But every time its the same story. JUNK.

My friend had 2003 rubicon, we went wheeling every weekend for about 6 months with my 2008 taco, 85 4runner and his jeep. He spent at least 4k in repairs (60k miles) before he traded it for something else.

 

hahahaha, at least the Jeep has a real suspension...

 

not i lol just sharing my experience. I had a friend who worked, parents on welfare and bought a brand new wrx sti in college. its plenty possible.

 

Well thats a better reply than i expected, i wasn't trying to be dickish it just felt one sided. I have drove a newer one and i do agree that the solid axel is still the king on trails and low speed, and i want one myself. But for most people the IFS is better, also the newer IFS setups are ages better than the older torsion bar setups etc. I hope that the newest round of jeep's have FINALLY solved some of thier serious issues, well i know they have fixed many but hopefully they fixed most. Jeep gets points in my book for still offering the solid axel, and even being balsy enough to offer mud terrain tires in OEM trim. Toyota, has really given its enthuisiast market of past years the cold shoulderon some things to appeal more to the majority market. At least in the US, i mean they used to make something for most every kind of fun stuff celica gt4/alltrac, supra, mr2, fjz80, fj40, toyota pickup, 4runner... even the corolla has had good packages 20v blacktop 4age, 2zzge.. They have given some thought and effort with the FJ and FRS, but they badged the FRS as a scion because it was too edgy for the US toyota market. I like the Rubicon, and i would like to like it more than the FJ, it has more Swag and better support from the OEM, BUT so far historically they dont have the same quality that toyota has.. Not that toyota is perfect, we deffinately have some problems with our fj's and tacoma's.

I was worried after i posted my reply that i was about to start one of the bicker fests i see on here so often, so i am glad that didnt happen. Do you have a soft top or hard top? and if its soft, have they figured out how to make one yet? It always killed me that my 2000 mr2 soft top never leaked and worked perfect up and down and every single jeep friend i have has busted zippers, scratched windows and leaking tops. And its a PITA to do the jeep top in comparison up or down. The only new rubicon i have been around is a hard top.

 

Apparently my GF's stepmoms Jeep was a soft top and people would always cut it up when she left it out side. She went through 5/6 tops before she finally just sold the thing.

I've never seen one come into the shop with that kind of damage so I was wondering if that's actually a common problem.

 

i see two scenarios..

1) someone really didnt like her

2) she had problems with the tops, hacked them and claimed insurance LOL

not saying anything lol, but yea every jeep softop at LEAST through the mid 2000's has been pretty low quality.

The hard doors, with full frames and plastic trims are the best of the junk, and actually decent. the half doors i have never seen a good one. My parents had a brand new jeep sahara when i was a kid and it leaked in storms..

 

I went to the Jeep dealer by my house the other day just to see what the new ones were like. I think that they have made major improvements. I absolutely fell in love with the Jeep Rubicon AEV. This is a real manly vehicle. Unfortunately, it's towing ability is practically nonexistent at 3500# max. If I did not have a small travel trailer to tow, I would definitely give this a try. I really wanted to love my jeep when I had it in 2006, but it spent more time in the shop than in my garage. As I stated earlier, I have over 180,000 miles in FJ's with a lot of it off road and have never had one single issue. I would love to be able to buy American but they will have to prove to me they are worthy of my hard earned money and of course fulfill my needs.

I know this is an old thread, but I was reading with serious interest. I am daydreaming if my life turns around in the next year will I get a Tacoma Access cab TRD Off Road, or an FJ? Then I think a nice 2-3" lift, front bumper, winch, sliders, and lots of road trips, wheeling, hunting and camping.

I had to sell my 98 4runner, 5 speed, rear locker, Sway Away coil overs with Eibach coils up front, OME springs and Bilstein shocks in rear, Shrockworks front bumper. Loved it, drove great even with 170k miles. LOVED IT, my first foreign vehicle ever. I have never owned a car, only 4x4s starting with Chevy K5 I wheeled HARD for many years through high school, college and grad school. It ewas eventually towed in New Haven CT as a public safety hazard, leaking too many fluids and rusting to pieces. I gave it to a college football teammate who drove it a few more years in Long Island using my expired plates even!!!

I was sort of sad to see the Jeep bashing, but glad it seemed to turn itself around. I do not get the bashing other brands or vehicles. Everyone has their favorites I am sure....but really is one vehicle or brand the end all be all?

I hope I can get an FJ or Taco in the next year to replace my 4runner. However I plan on keeping my 05 Rubicon forever, they can bury me in it. I never had a Jeep until 6 years ago I think. Up until then all I had was full size Chevy and GMC K5s and pickups. Once I got a Jeep TJ, I was amazed off road it was like driving a quad compared to a full size! Resale value on Jeep TJs seems as good as Yotas! I bought my parents a 2000 Jeep XJ (Cherokee), and it has 150k miles on it right now no issues at all, way more power than my 4runner had, and its a great platform to lift and wheel. My 05 Jeep Rubicon is amazing off road. I only have 33s with 3" lift, but with lockers at both ends, 4.88 gears, sliders, skids, front and rear bumpers, winch (which I never have used yet), it is frankly disgusting what I have done in it following bigger lifted vehicles with way more modifications on trails in Big Bear, CA. I am no off road expert either, with lockers on both ends and low gears, low T case gearing, I can crawl all over the place. Its been an amazing vehicle and has 93k miles on it I think. I will tell you I did put a new tranny in it, the auto for that year was awful, so I had a guy who builds the trannies for the King of the Hammers champion's Jeep build me a brand new one, but other than that the Jeep is amazing. I hate it on road trips, soft top, tires, yea its load, its not cozy on the highway, but for city driving, around town, wheeling, and gosh if I had it back east for more hunting, wonderful vehicle.

Anyways, off roading and outdoor stuff like hunting is to me a blessing I am so grateful for. Jeep, Chevy,Yota, Ford, whatever you like wheeling or hunting in, I do not care. And my head turns when I see any well built or cool looking 4x4! I do hope to get a nice Taco or FJ though, as much as I love the comfort of a full size pickup, and the V8 power, I think a Taco or FJ is better suited for trails and wheeling....and yes either an FJ or a Taco will be way better on the highway than my lifted TJ Rubicon!

Chrysler is owned by Fiat. It was owned by Daimler before that. Hasn't been domestic for years. I agree, but I haven't seen any quality out of the Detroit 2 in years. Not to mention most of there vehicles are ugly. My Solstice is part of the ignition switch recall. I love the car, it's a blast to drive. But the quality is somewhat lacking.

 

FJ because 3 wiper blades.....


JK, get a Tacoma with a DC, you can fit people for trips and bed is a man thing to have.

 

Wish I had the money get an FJ.
Since they are not gonna make'm anymore kinda seems senseless.
I guess the profit margin wasn't there....too bad.
