    best wheel bearings around! www.marionbumper2bumper.com
If you look at every vehicle on the road from Cadillac to Toyota, Corvette, trucks, SUVs, etc. ALL of them have grille openings that can allow a small rock to enter. At 50MPH even the smallest pebble can make a hole in a condenser. This design has been around for years and years, but the rarity of this happening has been very low. The OP was just unlucky.

Yep, happens all the time. In 04 I was driving my 2 week old Acura RSX home and took a rock in the condenser. Claimed it on my insurance. Had like 500 miles on it.

"He" doesn't make anything... not even royalties.
Mr Satoshi is credited with making the first "deep dish" grille using the mesh from Street Scenes.

Homertaco makes them, but not (yet) for the '12+. He made one, but full production would be too difficult... but remember, he's kicking out 10 of the '05-'11 grilles a week.
You may have the time to make one for your '12+.

    +1

Just don't follow other vehicles too closely.
My wife is terrible about that... and her windshield and paint on the front end show it.
She's been very lucky not to have killed her AC.
