    I finally got around to painting my wheels black the other day and here is the finished product, the center caps are still off because I want to let them dry a few more days but you get the idea. A friend of mine who had painted the wheels on his Xterra helped me out and all in all its very simple to do, just kind of time consuming since your truck will be out of service while the wheels dry. If anyone is curious I basically followed this guys write-up http://www.tacomaworld.com/out.php?...om/forum/showthread.php?p=1612987#post1612987 (thanks whoever you are) except I used Rustoleum Hammerd Finish black paint (I got that idea from Silverback). I might get some black lug nuts in the future but for now I actually kind of like the chrome accent. Also, I de-badged completely and tinted my windows.

    Looks good.

    I have a question for you (and others who have done this)... When you get your wheels balanced in the future, do you have to re-paint the place where the weights were? Do they scratch the paint when they move the weights?

    yes, i did take off my weights and paint them too but while putting them back on i definitely scratched the rims under them. so whenever i have to rebalance my tires ill have to touch up the area with some spray paint.

    I had my tires "static balanced" Weights on the inside of the rim only...and i don't have to worry about repaints or anything.

    There is also a product called Equal that goes inside the tire. and uses no external weights...

    you guys go WAY to crazy over painting wheels.

    You wanna know how I did mine?

    it was about 6degrees outside;
    brought them into the basement, let them warm up.
    wiped them down with acetone
    painted flat black.

    no problems now, and its been 2 years.

    I think the wheels look tougher without the center caps. I also like the chrome lugs. It really sets it off.

    I'd also be interested in a closer picture - to see the texture.

    I was on the fence about doing this with my Sport rims but I think I'm going to pull the trigger after seeing the pictures in that write-up. He did it like I would do it...very cautiously (almost OCD). Hell, I spent a whole Saturday just painting my engine cover cause it had to be perfect!

    Any other pictures of rims painted black?

    Here are some pictures of mine painted with the hammaerd black. There really isn't that much of a texture to them. I just painted the lug nuts to match.
