and yea that could be true. I think he was referring to the improvement of the new ARB design vs the "old" one.

 

i have no doubts the alloys are important..but still..ARB is a strong alloy...so..win ARB. And now the gears are forged and something about a 2 plate design now..which i don't get yet..haven't looked into it though.

It may not be just alloys, could be design factors too. Impossible to know from that video. The basic fact is the Yukon failed where the ARB did not.

When was the last time you heard of an 2nd gen ARB locker failing?
When was the last time you heard of an 2nd gen ARB locker failing in a Tacoma?
When was the last time you heard of an 2nd gen ARB locker failing in a 1st gen Tacoma?

I wasn't rying to be an ass, just thought in interesting all this discussion about a new design when it appears there is no legit reason for a change. At least not in Tacomas.

I honestly can't recall ever having heard of a locker failure. Certainly not a rear locker failure in a Tacoma. We know the 1st gen front diff is a bit vulnerable, especially with 35" and larger tires. Would'nt at all be surprised to hear someone having experience a problem with 37s.

I don't know of any failures either really..im sure if you looked you could find some on TTORA though or Pirate.

but usually gears i think or shafts, not the locker themselves..so who knows.

all i know..is i might be able to score some "old" ARBs for cheaper now haha

Seriously, I would not hold your breath for a big price drop simply as a result of this. I haven't seen prices yet but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a significant increase on the "3rd gen" ARBs.

I suspect the "2nd gens" will hold their value nicely. Especially since they never break in Tacomas.

 

I know of one locker failure in a Taco but it wasn't an ARB. Konsta's rear lockrite, bent the pin so it was stuck locked and several months (I don't know exactly how long) after the locker itself finally died. I can't remember exactly how it died now. Whether it was a gear failure or carrier failure.

and well 2nd gen ARBs were at 900ish and as low as 800..im sure the new ones will be more..cause..new is always better and more money..so im sure stores will replace stock and get rid of old stock. Not expecting a 400 dollar drop or anything. But i bet they will be a bit cheaper.

I paid $900 for my front locker from ECGS and it wasn't on sale. But that was over a year ago now and maybe they sell them a little cheaper when they are installing it and gears for you

 

I doubt you will see sales on those. Some places are already out of stock.

Best price I saw was at Amazon, $960. Since you don't have to pay a 10% sales tax, that might be a better deal that a place like ECGS or Low Range. Would not be for me.
