Im not gonna lie i didnt desing the truck but the slant eyed fucker that did figured with your newer motor and trans you would get better MPG's with that gearing you want the close to the same MPGs with a tire size jump you drop an equated amout with gearing. You can bring #s into it all you want but you know when it' comes to the real world whe wheel in it's what makes you happy. i have a buddy thats not blown on 35's and 4.88 gears hes happy and has good power even when pulling his sled behind him on a trailer.. he also gets better MPGs on the free way than i do with the cruise set for both of us wild hu?

its like the people that build this shit for us knew what they were doing or something..
if you jump a tire size say from 31 to 33 you drop a gear ratio 4.10 to 4.56

jump two sized 31 to 35 you change two ratios 4.10 to 4.88.

I mean i must just be fucking retarded drunk when i read all this and thinks its simple math.

That was difficult to decipher. haha Were you bar hopping tonight?

It seems that most 2nd gen auto tranny guys with 35's go with 4.56's because they feel that 4.88's are too low geared. It has more to do with engine power output and tranny gears than it does factory gears. The 1st gen auto is ridiculously high geared compared to the 1st gen manual and 2nd gen auto.

    Your 1st gear: 2.80 last gear: 0.71
    My 1st gear: 3.52 last gear: 0.72
    1st gen manual 1st gear: 3.83 last gear: 0.84
    2nd gen manual 1st gear: 4.17 last gear: 0.85

There's over a whole turn difference between the 1st gears on the 1st gen auto and manual

That basically makes sense. That means you have your 4.88's for 35's and I should have 3.90's for my 33's. haha So I should be running like 39's with my 4.88's. haha

Well, after comparing 4:88's to 5:29's on that website. I think I'm leaning towards 4:88's...

Might be a better choice given the fact that you DD yours. Although at 75 mph on 33's it's only a difference of about 200 rpm, 2650 vs 2850.

I run about 2700 rpm. I think Monte runs about 2625 rpm right now.

    honestly heres my chime in!!!

I ran 35's on a second gen with 4.56 even though EVERYONE said no dont do it, yes it hunted

for the couple times I ran a couple highway runs of 37's I never really noticed any "losses", TBH these arent race trucks, when the transmission would start hunting I would just drop it down one notch on the cruise control, gained some MPG and just enjoyed life. (all i can do now in the LX :p)

I also had a path forward of the so called "crawl" issue by going the crawl box route, I would have ended up supercharged too

I also ran my truck on 31's, 33's, 35's on 3.73's and never had an issue, only reason I even regeared was becuase I was locking the diffs and waned 37's and 37's on factory gearing and an auto would have confused the computer lol

Do what you want, not what others says, ULTIMATELY its your truck so the right way is your way

    Uhm, for me it's showing for 35's on 4:88's at 75mph I'd be at 2045rpm, and 35's on 5:29's at 75mph I'd be at 2556rpm.

I won't regear to 4:88/5:29 until I had 35's. By then it probably won't be a DD, but will be a rig that I will drive on the highway a lot to get to the trail or camping spot. I still want a comfortable highway rig so I figure 4:88's will give me a little more oomph back as well as be good on the highway. Well as good as a Tacoma on 35's can get at least.

    I think you input something wrong... I got 2495 and 2704. I get 2096 rpm for 35's on 4.10's.

Yes and no. The Tcase they list is for the 2nd gen. 1st gen is 1:1 and 2.28:1 and 2nd gen is 1:1 and 2.57:1. That shouldn't affect hwy speeds though since they are both 1:1. Not sure where you messed up, the diff ratios?

I put 4:88 on the left and 5:29 on the right to compare rpms.

That's what I did too. I don't know what to tell you as to why they numbers came out so different... I'd guess mine are closer to right though. Yours were too far apart from each other.
