I know I'm relatively new to this but I have to say, I'm not impressed with my crop sensor in low light conditions, even at ISO 6400. I'm not going full frame anytime soon, but even with my 1.8 lenses I'm surprised how little it takes to be hurting. Something I can live with, especially for the weight/cost, just an observation.

Oh god ya man. 4000 iso is bad for me.

I don't get what will allow for better iso low light either..like looking at other cameras..they can do higher iso..but does that mean they will look better at 4-6000?

I mean if I'm shooting softball when they have the statium lights on it's still pretty dark and if I want decent shutter speeds I'm going to need to have the ISO bumped up to pretty much max or a couple stops short. I do better with my 85mm f/1.8 than I do with my f/4.5-5.6 telezoom, obviously, but even then I'm pretty limited to f/1.8-2.8 ha not a huge deal, I am just really realizing my limitations here :p

Yea when i was doing the inside of a stadium was doing 1/400th and with a 3.5-5.6f as minimum it didn't like that. But i left the iso at 4000 no matter what. The f stop would flash saying it needs to go lower..but..didn't notice a terrible drop in quality and i needed the shutter speed.

back ground has some nosie in it..but who cares about that..subject is still clear..

but im still curious what makes a DSLR handle high iso better then others..

Larger sensor, and back in the day lower MP, although I'm not sure that modern sensors have the same dealio. I'm pretty sure the D4, for example, has better high ISO quality than the D800 because the D800 has 36.3 stinking MP. This is what I've read anyway. I don't know . . .

Set your camera to 10-20 second exposure and set it to go off with the self timer like you were going to take a picture and get in it. You'll have 10 seconds before the camera triggers the shutter and then 10-20 seconds to ride by.

I know on mine it will go up to a 30 second exposure (on camera) without having to use my external timer remote.
