Lifts and Tires

So first things first. I got hired on with an EMS crew finally, so I can stop with this hoping for industrial EMS work (Which put me out of funds for 7 months due to the drop in oil).

Now that being said I'm in the market for new wheels in about 6-8 months. The problem is that I want Green Diamond M/T, but they'd be a special order. If I'm going to special order tires, I'd want them to be able to look and function good with a 3" lift cause that's what I'm eventually after.

Now that being said I won't have the funds for a full on 3" lift for a while what with a baby on the way. Maybe a year or so.

Would spacers be fine to run till I get an actual lift? I keep hearing bad things regarding them. Should I just get a set of something else till I can afford to get the M/Ts and get the whole set up 2 years or so down the line? I don't really want to wait that long, but if shinanigans happen then.

I want the Green Diamond, cause they get awesome snow and ice write ups due to the carbide granules, and being on the highway for almost 2 hours every 4 days in a Canadian winter, good tires in snow and ice are a must.

 

Id say get the billy 5100's for your temporary lift.

 

i'd try and stay away from spacers from personal experience. The ride with them isnt all that bad, but they tear stuff up. My CV boots are showing wear and one of my UCA ball joint boots is now torn(and the ball joint is beginning to 'clunk' on certain bumps). I've got some OME shocks and 885 coils im going to run. if you're still interested in temporarily running a spacer lift, i'd sell mine real cheap when I get my OME stuff on.
A set of 5100s would be a good setup to run for a while too.

 

Yeah, but can that lift it 3" with stock springs, or do I need to get aftermarket springs for that too?

 

I think you can go to 2.5"
Thats enough to clear 33" tires

 

I currently run spring spacers. I got the 3" kit from Toytec. Its a great kit for the price. I've done some crazy desert running. It definatly is a bit more stiff in the front. Its spring charges likes a mofo going through the whoops. But all and all I've been pretty happy with it. But I am really needing to get some real Coilovers. I've got my eye on the new Fox 2.5s Ill be getting those soon.
If you have got the money get some coilovers if not save for them. And if you are impatient like I am the spacer kit will be fine untill then. Im just saying do it right the first time. You will be happy you did.
