I Hit rev limiter in my 4.0 auto on accedent in the rain. It bounced off only once. Is there anything I need to be worried about it? Are there any problems associated with it?

    Thanks

Your fine. That's what the limiter is there for. Nothing to be worried about

    Lots baby!
I have hit mine several times.

From what I have heard, Toyota tested this engine at 100 hours at redline.

That's what the limiter is there for, not to cause any damage. You're going to be fine, nothing to worry about.

I have stood on my redline for upwards of 5 seconds. I hit it a lot when I am out playing in the dunes and snow.

I've got a friend with a S/C 1st gen who I've seen stand on his for almost 30 seconds straight frequently and it has over 200K miles on it.

thats what the limiter is there for, to keep the engine from over revving and causing it self harm. safe to keep bouncing off the limiter repeatedly? dont make a habit of it. once in a while, not really an issue for concern. you're fine

Are you sure you hit the limiter? If you were in the rain I would think it was more likely the trac control or VSC?

But even if it was the rev limiter thats what it is there for. If it caused engine damage at the limiter they would lower the revs on that.

It doesn't though. It actually bounces off pretty smoothly. Not like my dad's 97 GMC Sierra, although I never bounced off the rev limiter in it. Just the speed limiter.

Unconfirmed, but I read somewhere that a manual transmission Tacoma with cruise control in use will not activate the rev limiter IF shifted into neutral without depressing the clutch, ie accidentally.

Anyone able to confirm or deny ?

I would doubt it. The computer is capable of noticing when there is an increase in RPM and a decrease in speed (due to being in neutral)and would shut off cruise.

My friends old 2001 Frontier would do just this. Granted it would rap up to about 4000rpm before it shut the cruise off, but still that's no big deal.

And I'm pretty certain the cruise control still obeys the rev limiter no matter what. That's an engine safety feature that is probably superior to almost all other signals the ECU wojld reciever. So even if the cruise didn't shut off it would probably just bounce off the rev limiter not exceed it.

Did a search and it was on TW, titled 6 speed cruise control bug, from June 2011.

Quote "When I set my cruise control, then shift into neutral (like when rolling down a hill for example), the computer will stop applying power (as expected). But then, when I hit resume while still in neutral, the computer will revv up the truck beyond the red line. Kind of scray. Accidentally happend to me, and for a sec or so I had no idea what the heck was going on."

Can't tell if it was hitting the limiter or what the OP did to stop it.

Is there an electrical sensor on the 6sp transmission, ie to detect neutral ?

Pushing in the clutch pedal disengages the cruise. Never thought about neutral don't drive that way.
