Alright. Where is the designated camping area at or whats it called? I've never been there so I don't have a clue about any of the area.

There are campgrounds at the entrances at both the Evarts and Putney sides.

Both of these have easy access with paved roads to them, both have bathrooms and showers I believe.

I think several plan to camp with tents at the top of trail 10 (camp 3?), this is say 6 miles or so up.

This is the road that I was referring to in earlier post. No doubt you can get a camper up there, especially the 'right' kind as posted in the Aussie video, the trick is that it could be a bit tough on a trailer not built to handle some rough going.

Gotcha. This is just a little teardrop camper. It's not big at all.

Are you being a dick about my "getting the fuck outta work" plans? I can't tell.. My new shop and boss are pretty cool.

Work on the truck up to the last minute, I know the feeling. Not quite as involved as your shit, but little stuff on mine. Did an alignment sunday and I'm not happy with it, hopefully my dude can get me back in Tuesday night so I can do it again. Got rid of some hanging wires, still need to clean up and secure my CB wires. I'll be doing shit at the campsite. Finally will have a few damn minutes to myself....."Whats Chris doing?....won't quit fuckin' with his truck"

When I was there a couple weeks ago it was nice and smoth gravel road about a mile from the Putney side you can see it on the map that I have posted of the Ariel view campi g spot 3. They have done a lot of work up there making the roads to the trail head passable for a 2 wheel drive truck. If you want to sleep in comfort bring it no problem on the roads to the camp site.

Not bein a dick at all. The fact that you can work through lunch each day and have it accumulate at the end of the week is badass and its a genius idea on your part to execute it that way. Good thinkin.

    Is that better ........

    Too many to list.
All of the camping areas I've seen at the Putney trailhead have a nice gravel road up to them. It would be dry camping, but easily accessible IMO

I may be just a bit confused as to exactly where campground 3 is located at.

When I went over I of course saw the campgrounds at the entrance to the trails at both the Putney and Evarts sides. These of course are very easy access that have great roads to them

I went out to the end of Trail 10 that day, on the top end of this trail is the Whitetail Ridge Campground, this is what I thinking we were talking about. This is the trail I thought might be a bit tough on some trailers.

From what I can find, (other than campgrounds at entrances) they show a Coyote, Black Bear and Whitetail Ridge Campgrounds, have not found any info on ones listed as 3, 4, etc.

Where is number 3 and 4 located so we are all sure to be on the same page.

The numbered campsites are the sites owned/operated by Stephen on the Putney side, since he owns a portion of trail 45 and the mountain. The other "campgrounds" on the trail system (shown on the map) aren't owned by anyone, and anyone can camp there anytime.

Just remember that the facilities at the campground on the Putney side are actually for paying customers of the campground

If that is the case then I know where that is.

This is just a mile or less up the road from the office/entrance at Putney.

As I recall the road was fine and there is a house up there on the right I believe.

This is where I stopped and talked to some locals when I was over there in the FJ.

Putney side is a Win just because you are already on the mountain. There is no organized campground on the Evarts side that I know of. You used to camp in verde field by the dairy hut but your a good ten minute ride to the trailhead. So if you drink at all you cannot drive to the trailhead.

If you camp on Putney side, you are already drinking on the trail.

So what exactly do you need to do to "actually" use them? And is that the same location the camp site is or is that evarts? I'm as lost as last years Easter egg right now

Yep, that is right where I thought it was after NwiTACO's post.

That is the spot the locals recommended I not try the trail in my FJ but my Taco would be fine!

Drunktaco, as others have stated, you will be fine to get in there with your camper.

Wow. Its not that hard people. There's one campground, Harlan County Campground, and its on the Putney side. This campground has amenities such as nice toilets, showerhouse, wash hose, compressed air, etc. For paying customers of the campground.

The other "campgrounds" on the trails map (Whitetail, etc.) are open areas that are on public land on the mountain on which you may camp. More or less camp areas. First come first serve basis, and all your shit is open to anyone who wants it throughout the day while you're out wheeling, but you don't have to pay since its not part of the campground.

So um yeah...to use the facilities at the actual campground you should be camping there. Or just use them and don't pay and then people go out of business with the freeloaders using shit.

If you camp on the mountain you should be bathing in the creek and shitting in a bag, since that's what you're paying for.

Evarts side has a few rental cabins, but no campground at the trails. Either trailhead is 20 mins from Harlan and Walmart.
