CB radio set up for a simple man

Hey guys. Im looking for a simple CB set up for when Im out on the trails. Im a little intimidated by the install so I chose the midland 75 so I dont have to worry about power. I think I will wire the antenna through the rear window to make it easy. Im also worried about tuning it with an SWR meter. Im new to all of this. Does the setup below look good enough and have everything I need? Thanks

 

looks good to me. The only thing I would suggest if you were thinking of hardwireing a unit in, the corbra 75 is a pretty nice setup. Also for hood brackets, relentless fab has a nice hood bracket, if you were thinking that route.

As for the SWR its pretty easy to do with a tunable antenna. You just adjust the attena till you get the 1.0 reading and your laughing. hope this helps

 

My 0.02, I have a cobra 19, 4 ft firestik, tailgate CB mount and HD spring. Its a simple setup and works nicely for the price. Borrow an SWR meter if you want to save the coin.

 

Thanks. Im planning on mounting the antenna on my bed rack. I dont think I want to hard wire it because Im really only going to be using it when Im offroading. and I like the idea of being able to put it away when I dont need it.

 

Nothing wrong with that. are you planning on hardwiring the antenna and just plugging in the unit, or are you removing that as well?

 

Im going to hard wire the antenna with the connection into my center consol.

 

If you really want to make it easy get yourself a Wilson mag mount antenna and then you won't need to mess with any mounts. And as stated already a Cobra 19 will work just fine and it's cheap.

 

Okay just make sure the coax you are using has the removable screw part so its just a thin piece of wire. Will make it a lot easier to slip it through a grommet that way

This is definatly an easier solution.

 

I looked into the mag mounts but they are reported to fall off over 50 miles an hour and Ill be using it on bumpy roads with low branches. I dont want it to get knocked off. A folding antenna on my bed rack seems like a good solution for me.

 

I havnt heard anything with the mag antennas, but like you im rocking one that's bolted. If it works right lol

go with a bolt on mount instead and i wouldnt just borrow a swr meter its awlays good to keep ur swr down so it dont burn up ur radio it can fry ur final i peronally dont like the cobra75s id rather go the cobra 19 ultra that street u can still plug it 12 v if you need it

 

Thanks for the advice. I bought the swr meter. I get everything on Thursday except the swr meter won't be here till next week.

 

I've had 2 Wilson Little Wils and now a Wilson 1000 mag mount and have never had it come loose. That is with driving on the highway and wheeling hitting low branches.

 

I read through a lot of comments on Amazon for mag mounts but I don't remember what the brands were.

 

ive had a k30 come off and also a wilson 1000 come off i dont like mag mouns for trail use u never know whatyoull run into i lost the wilson 1000 in the woods

 

I have a pretty simple set up its a uniden 520xl with a 3 foot firestick 2 kit from firestick total was around 90 bucks for everything and it works well for what I use it for which is offroading only

 

Got my CB installed. Midland 75. With a 4' antenna mounted on my bed rack. I can fold it down when I dont need it. I get the SWR meter tuesday. Then I will have it tuned. Thanks for all your guys help.

Then behind the seats and under the carpet. Plugs into the cigerette port and I can put it in my center consel when I dont need it.
