With leafs a rear canti is fine. Damping ratio is a lot more linear since your arcs are rotating opposite with a rear canti, unlike a forward mounted canti, which you can set up with a more progressive shock stroke to wheel travel ratio, since the arcs are pivoting on the same axis.

My ratio on my rear canti on my 4runner only gets a little weird the last inch of suspension bump travel, where it's already 2 inches into my bump stops and on gnar piston valving in my bypass shocks bump zone. It works better than any leaf sprung truck I've ever been in. People with prerunners who get rides in my truck get bummed. Seriously.
If a dumb ass like me can figure it out and get it to work, anyone can.

i think if you mounted it behind the skid and cut through skid you would be fine.

mhh. thats how i was going to do mine...havent check out how much space i have either behind mine, but thats how i would do it. mounting it on top would be legit if you could move the box.

That much weight that far up front is detrimental to suspension performance. You would be better off welding in a mount between the frame spars in the rear and mounting it there.

That's my plan after having had a front bumper mounted winch for years.

Another option is a hitch mounted winch. When I built my front bumper I built in a hidden hitch up front (behind my license plate) so I could use a hitch mount winch basket on the front or rear of the truck.

For a 2wd desert style build I wouldn't want the extra weight of a winch. U would need to strengthen those tube bumpers to with stand the extra stress. Adam had a bumper with a winch behind the skid plate. Looked pretty good...think Alex has it now :notsure:

U could always put a receiver behind the skid plate and cut a small hole and use a hitch mounted winch. U could always hook it up in the rear too!

    Just my 2cents
