I'm looking at my options for replacing my original suspension (120k on my 2009) and one of the leading candidates is 5100s @ 2.5" with an AAL. While looking at Toytec's site, they list a new progressive AAL that can be either 1.5" or 2". From my research, it sounds like the Icon progressive AAL was a superior product to a normal AAL, but I was curious - has anyone tried this Toytec one? Toytec is local to me, so I can pick it up in person (big plus) and I always like supporting local vendors. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with this product.

I've never tried Toytecs AAL but I currently have the Icons that you speak of. 55k miles on the AAL and 95k on my actual leaf springs. They're both progressive so I'm not sure if you'll notice much of a ride difference. Also, I'm not sure if it'll be wise for you to install those AAL on that set of leaf springs with that high of a mileage. Might consider finding a used set of OEM springs via Craigslist or here on TW with lower miles. Just my .002

I'm going with wheelers off-road AAL for my next set. Might consider them also as another option.

Yeah, I have the same wonders as far as mileage on my springs, but...the truck has had such an easy life, I'm not sure they're really that worn out. I mean, it spent it's first 3 years doing 30-35k a year on the highway with hardly a load in the bed, just the occasional boat or jetski towing. Even at 120k miles, my shocks are still fine...they don't bottom out or float at all...truck still rides great. I just know I'm on borrowed time with those.

Icon (sold through SDHQ or Downsouth Motorsports) and Wheeler's Off Road both make 3-leaf progressive AAL's that are cheaper than Toytec's version. I have the Icon version and have been pleased with it. I went the route that Joe mentioned, I purchased a fairly new TSB leaf pack and installed the AAL into that since my stock leafs were trashed.

Toytec mentions the Icon as being back-ordered. Downsouth does not, but I guess there's no way to tell without asking them. It looks like Downsouth would be $309 for 4 5100s and $215 for the Icon...so roughly $550 when it's all said and done, plus install if I don't do it myself and an alignment. Of course, if I try to find a new leaf pack, there's that cost as well.

Whoa... I paid $185 shipped from DSM when I ordered mine  Toytec and DSM used to have TW discounts, not sure if they still do. Might be worth calling and asking.

I know Downsouth doesn't anymore...there is a thread about it in their forum here. They are definitely cheaper on the 5100s, but it's pretty much a wash on the AAL. I just looked at Wheeler's...the Icon is $215 there as well. Are you happy with your AAL/5100 setup?

I love it so far. I kept my overload leaf in since I tow and haul frequently and it's help up well. Wheelers wasn't offering their HD version of the 3-leaf progressive at the time otherwise, I may have gone that route to help with load support. That said, the setup I have has performed very well.

Good to hear. I need to take a look at my leaf pack and see if it's sagging at all before I do anything. I plan on having the truck for 30-50k more miles, so I just want to do it once before I sell it. Although to be totally honest, my family has never replaced a leaf pack on any truck we've ever had, and all were over 200k miles with more towing and hauling than this truck does...until I came here it was never even a thought of mine that you'd have to replace them.

Looking more and more like 5100s at 1.75" and 1.5" AAL is the way to go...

I had a 2" toytec AAL and 5100s at 2.5" and it was a little stuff. I actually uninstalled the AAL and set front to .85" which pretty much leveled with stock rear.

Did you develop any kind of squeaking and or vibration after install ? I have read on here where some guys have. Not sure if that was an isolated incident or common with these.

I've had them on since about March of 2012 and they've been quiet them entire time. Even before install, I had a slight vibration. After the AAL, nothing got better or worse. Since the install, my vibrations have worsened recently but I do not believe the lift is to blame. I'm actually replacing my carrier bearing and u-joints this weekend and I believe that is the cause of my worsening vibrations.

So to update this...I looked at my leaf springs this morning to see if they had flattened out or were sagging, and they still had a decent upwards arch to them...I would assume that with that, plus the fact the rear of the truck hasn't sagged at all, I should feel reasonably comfortable that an AAL would work on the springs that I have?

Could always get Dakars and replace the whole thing. kinda $$ but lots of people have good luck. I personally have the toytec prog. aal and about 30k on it, even they will start to get flat

just buy the full OME setup to replace all the old parts, if you don't want too much lift go 884x's and remove a leaf from the spring pack(not sure of the specific one off hand that ppl remove from the dakars..) 884x's with the top plate spacer will ride great and give the lift of the 885x's. you can also save a 100 bucks by going with a procomp or skyjacker rear shock. i run the skyjacker H7045 rear shocks, they are just under an inch longer than the OME's, i wheel my truck and like any extra wheel travel i can get.. anyway just my thought...
