hey when you did the tundra axle converson, was your 930 bates style cv boot a little bigger than the cv joint it goes on?

the axle shop that is doing mine is saying the boot is a little bigger than the cv so it wont work, i saw it too.
so i called kartek they said what they have been told is people cutting off the lip of the old cv boot and slding the 930 bates style boot onto the piece of the old boot and then sinch it down so it takes up the excess space?
does not seem right to me.......

I just did another axle yesterday. Yes there's a bit of a gap, but not more than a 1/4". Spread that around the entire diameter and it's nothing. The worm clamp cinches it right up.

    Perhaps.
Driver error. Snapped the passenger inner cv cage to pieces too.
Big waterbar came up quick around a blind corner and I locked up. I should have kept on the gas, but instead I nose dived hard with the front's locked up and the rest is history.

    Best I got.
It went through a couple revisions as I originally wasn't happy with how high the spares were sitting.

We may as well just modify a plow to use as a skid plate :D

As long as she gets me home!
The blown CV was slightly amusing. The inner cv cage blew out and all the cage and ball bearings came out and ripped through the boot. The cup was fine and stayed inside the front diff. And the axle was free floating inside the cup. I drove that way all the way home and you could hear the axle banging around inside the CV cup all 20 miles. Unnerving...but funny at the same time.

So got the CV swapped out.
New diff bracket came in the mail today so I'm full 4wd again, just gotta get the skid situation figured out.

But more importantly....going bat shit crazy on the trailer!

    Nope. Not at all.
But it's a never ending saga. As a consequence....my front subframe looks a bit down syndrome at the moment.
